Self Drive Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive Auckland.

Welcome to New Zealand. We suggest an optional climb on Auckland's Harbour Bridge, or even a climb to the top of Auckland's Sky Tower.

Overnight Auckland.

Day 2. Auckland to Bay Of Islands.

Today you travel north to the beautiful Bay of Islands. Visit the Waitangi Treaty House where New Zealand's most important document of state was signed, or take a tour on the 'Paihia Duck' an amphibious vehicle that allows for land and water sightseeing.

Overnight Bay of Islands (2 nights)

Day 3. Bay of Islands.

Today you have the option of one of the many tours and cruises offered by Fullers Bay of Islands. Take a trip on the high speed 'Excitor' to the Hole in the Rock, swim with the dolphins or take a cruise through the many islands.

Day 4. Bay Of Islands to Hotel Du Vin.

Depart the Bay of Islands via the spectacular Kauri Forests of the West Coast. Rejoin the main highway and retrace your route back to Auckland continuing south to Pokeno, home of De Redcliffe Winery and the 4-star Hotel Du Vin. Tonight enjoy a wonderful meal and wine tasting.

Overnight Hotel Du Vin.

Day 5. Hotel Du Vin to Waitomo Caves to Rotorua.

Continue onto Waitomo Caves. Experience a black water-rafting excursion through the network of limestone caves and underground water systems, (additional cost). Later this afternoon continue onto Rotorua.

Overnight Rotorua (2 nights).

Day 6. Rotorua.

Today, take a helicopter tour to the edge of a continuously active volcano 'White Island' a living, breathing geological giant. Return to Rotorua to enjoy a Maori Hangi (feast) and concert this evening. D

Day 7. Rotorua to Queenstown.

A last look around the geothermal city of Rotorua, before an afternoon flight to the mountain resort of Queenstown (flight not included). The rest of the day is yours to enjoy New Zealand's adventure capital'.

Overnight Queenstown (3 nights)

Day 8. Milford Sound.

Travel along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park. Join your Milford Sound Cruise and explore the wonder of this majestic fiord. Return to Queenstown by scenic flight.

Day 9. Queenstown.

Today we suggest you purchase one of the many 'Queenstown Combos' available which combine such activities as bungee jumping, white water rafting, helicopter flights and gondola rides.

Day 10. Queenstown/Franz Josef.

Travel north towards the rugged West Coast. Stop at the alpine resort of Wanaka. Where you will have the opportunity to explore the expansive back country on a 4WD excursion. Continue to Franz Josef arriving mid afternoon. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Overnight Franz Josef (2 nights)

Day 11. Franz Josef.

This morning enjoy a heli-hike onto the world famous Franz Josef Glacier. A short helicopter flight begins your hike amongst the ice caves and snow-covered slopes. This afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 12. Franz Josef to Christchurch.

Depart Franz Josef and follow the coast north to Greymouth. From here you head east to Christchurch via Arthur's Pass, following the route of the world famous 'TranzAlpine' train. This afternoon is free to enjoy Christchurch. (you can extend your stay here at Arthur's Pass Wilderness Lodge or Lake Brunner).

Overnight Christchurch.

Day 13. Christchurch.

Your tour arrangements conclude this morning.

Queenstown Combo (Jetboat, White-water Rafting and Heliride), Bungee Jump, Half Day 4WD Safari of the Rings.
