Wellington to Christchurch
Self Drive Itinerary
Day 1. Arrive Wellington.
The nations capital is home to Te Papa - the interactive Museum of New Zealand, numerous art galleries and national treasures such as the original Treaty of Waitangi. A diverse range of cafes and restaurants support the city's vibrant nightlife.
Overnight Wellington.
Day 2. Wellington to Blenheim.
This morning transfer to the ferry terminal for the 3 hour scenic journey across Cook Strait on the InterIslander. On arrival in Picton, pick up your rental vehicle and travel a short distance south to Blenheim.
Overnight Blenheim.
Day 3. Blenheim at leisure.
Situated on the fertile Wairau Plains in the Marlborough district, at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, Blenheim's varied attractions include its wine industry, the waterways of the Marlborough Sounds, gourmet foods, adventure activities, relaxing recreation opportunities and much more.
Overnight Blenheim.
Day 4. Blenheim to Kaikoura.
Depart Blenheim and drive south to Kaikoura, renowned for its year round whale and dolphin watching.
Day 5. Kaikoura to Hanmer Springs.
Hanmer Springs is a destination for relaxation and indulgence. You can soak in the hot springs or treat yourself to a range of spa therapies.
Overnight Hanmer Springs.
Day 6. Hanmer Springs to Christchurch.
The route to Christchurch initially follows the beautiful Waiau River. Then it leads you through the Balmoral Forest and across the Hurunui River.
Overnight Christchurch.
Day 7. Depart Christchurch.
Return your rental vehicle and depart Christchurch
