Day 1

Welcome To Austria

Upon arrival in Vienna, you will be met and transferred to your hotel with check-in assistance by our local representative. The balance of the afternoon is at leisure for you to rest at the hotel, or perhaps enjoy a walk through the charming narrow streets of old Vienna. This evening enjoys a special “Welcome to Austria” dinner in a popular local restaurant specializing in Austrian cuisine. D

Day 2

Vienna

After breakfast this morning, you will be met by your guide and embark on a full-day city sightseeing tour. The morning focus is on the beautiful city sights of the Austrian capital. Along the Ringstrasse, you will see the many grand buildings Vienna is famous for, such as the State Opera house, the Fine Arts Museum, The City Hall, and the Hofburg Residence. You will then arrive at Schonbrunn Palace where you will have a guided tour. The palace is the former residence of the Habsburg Monarchs, but you may also recognize it from the James Bond film “The Living Daylights” or “The Great Race”.

This afternoon after lunch (own expense) you will depart on a wine tavern tour including a ride on the famous giant Ferris wheel – the views of the city are spectacular! Drive through the wine tavern village of Grinzing to Neustift am Walde where the artists of the 1st Viennese Heurigenshow will entertain you with a selection of famous waltz melodies, polkas and romantic arias and duets from popular operettas! Enjoy a local evening meal including ¼ litre of wine per person together with the unique atmosphere of a wine tavern. After dinner, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Vienna. BD

Day 3

Vienna to Salzburg

After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will board your coach and begin the journey to Salzburg. A stop will be made at the medieval city of Melk for a lunch break (own expense). Here, enjoy a lake cruise in the Wachau region of Austria. Among the highlights of the cruise are the Melk Abbey (entrance included), the Schoenbuehel Castle and the town of Duernstein. You will arrive in Salzburg late afternoon and check into your hotel.

This evening you will enjoy the famous Mozart Dinner Concert at the Stiftskeller St. Peter Restaurant (three-course set menu – no drinks included). You can make your own way to the restaurant, as it is within walking distance of the hotel. Imagine the experience of living in Mozart’s Salzburg with all its colourful costumes and its culinary joys.

Enjoy the most popular compositions by W.A. Mozart by candlelight in the stylish ambiance of the Stiftskeller St. Peter restaurant. Music is played by Salzburg artists in historic costumes while a multiple-course dinner is served, prepared as it was in Mozart’s time. Following dinner, make your way back to the hotel. BD

Day 4

Salzburg

Enjoy an early breakfast at your hotel. Then, you will begin your guided walking tour of Salzburg including a visit to the famous music festival halls and Felsenreitschule – you will recognize the interior as the setting for the Salzburg Music Festival from The Sound of Music. You will walk through the Mirabel Gardens – featured in the Do-Re-Mi sequence of the movie, and then take the lift up the Mönchsberg for a spectacular view of the city. Your guide will explain the history of the city as well as point out many sites that you will recognize from the film. This afternoon you are in for a treat as you are taken on a personalized Sound of Music Tour with a specialized local guide. This guided tour includes breathtaking views of the landscape where some of the opening scenes were filmed. Highlights include the historical and architectural landmarks in the city as well as a part of the picturesque Lake District. You will see Leopoldskrone Palace, situated on the lake (remember the rowboat scene!), and Hellbrunn Palace, where the original gazebo from the movie is now located. You will also see Nonnberg Abbey, Maria’s home before she leaves for the Von Trapp Villa. In the Lake District, you will visit the town of Mondsee and visit the church where the wedding scene between Maria and the Captain was filmed. On returning to Salzburg, there will be time to freshen up before tonight’s scheduled activity – a performance of “The Sound of Music” at the Salzburg Marionette Theatre. The theatre is within walking distance of your hotel. B

Day 5

Salzburg

After breakfast at your hotel, you will depart on your full-day excursion to the Salzkammergut region, where you again will recognize some of the locations from the opening scenes of the movie. You will visit Fuschl where you can see the Castle, and then you will arrive at St. Gilgen where you will embark on a cruise on the Wolfgangsee and enjoy a ride to the top of the Schafsberg Mountain on the Cog Wheel Train (seen in the Do-Re-Mi sequence). Enjoy the spectacular view as you have lunch at the mountain panorama restaurant at the Hotel Schafsbergspitze. In the afternoon you will visit the picturesque town of Werfen, nestled in the Austrian mountains. This is where the picnic scene was filmed. While the meadow is now private property, it is possible to see it from a distance. Afterwards, you will visit the Castle Hohenwerfen; the castle is seen over Julie Andrew’s shoulder as she sings Do-Re-Mi. This castle was also featured in the film “Where Eagles Dare”. You will return to your Salzburg hotel late afternoon and have time to freshen up before tonight’s activity. This evening enjoys the Sound of Salzburg Dinner Show including a three-course menu and one free drink per person. B

Day 6

Salzburg

Today, after breakfast, you will be met by your guide and begin a day of touring the mountains. Your tour will start with a cable car ride to the top of Unterberg Mountain (clearly seen across the lake in many scenes from the movie). After a stop for lunch in Berchtesgaden, you will embark on a scenic cruise on the Königssee; this mountain lake is seen during the opening sequences of the film. Following your full day of touring, you will return to your hotel in Salzburg. We have not included dinner today, so you have the opportunity to experience one of Salzburg’s many excellent restaurants. Your tour guide will be happy to recommend a restaurant. Your final evening in Salzburg is at leisure. Take the time to stroll the quaint streets, go shopping on the Getreidegasse, or enjoy a coffee and the famous "Sachertorte" on the terrace of the Café Bazar, overlooking the Salzach River. BL

Day 7

Salzburg to Munich

This morning, after breakfast, you will transfer by coach to Munich. Upon arrival in Munich you will check-in at your hotel. This afternoon you will be taken on a sightseeing tour of the Bavarian capital. See the main sites of the city including the cathedral, and the Gothic-style “Rathaus” or Town Hall located in the Marienplatz. This evening enjoys a “Farewell Dinner” in the Hofbrauhaus; Bavaria’s most famous brewery restaurant known for its local specialties. BD

Day 8

Munich to your Home Town

This morning you will be transferred to the Munich Airport for your flight home to Canada.
