ALLYSON MCGINNIS

WORLD'S IDYLLIC ISLANDS

DESTINATION SPECIALIST

I am Canadian born and love the outdoors, exploring new places and also treating myself to the small luxuries of life like spa days. Travel has always been a source of therapy. It's invaluable to get out there and see new things, meet new people, and broaden your horizons. It opens up the world and allows you to embrace it. I studied Travel & Tourism at college and started working in the industry in 1994. Some of my favourite memories have been seeing the sunrise at the Taj Mahal and kayaking at sunset in Guatemala. My travels over the years have taken me to Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, South America, and Antarctica...but there is still so much more to explore!

My favourite places

  • Aitutaki

    Idyllic Islands

Aitutaki has one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world. It is a magnificent and remote triangular-shaped atoll rising up 4,000 meters from the floor of the Pacific Ocean and consists of 3 volcanic and 12 coral islets. The water is so crystal clear, with gorgeous turquoise colours and warm temperatures. It's absolutely breathtaking.

  • Ubud

    Idyllic Islands

The centre of arts and culture in Bali, with beautiful rice terraces surrounding the outskirts. There's a peaceful energy here as well as the joy of art and dance. Ubud is a wonderful gem with bright colours and excellent food, and a good spot to find authentic art work.

  • Moorea

    Idyllic Islands

This beautiful island only 30 minutes from Papeete offers one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world and is surrounded by lush volcanic mountains. There are a variety of things to do on this island from hiking the mountain in order to look out over the bay to snorkeling through fabulous reefs. It's a beauty.

  • Budapest

    UK Europe

This city offers a variety of history, culture, spas, and wonderful cuisine. There is so much to see and do in this gem of a city. The architecture of the Hungarian Parliament Building is stunning and the walk along the riverside offers gorgeous views of the bridges that separate Buda and Pest.

Did you know?

  • You should always bring reef shoes when you're travelling somewhere tropical to avoid any cuts and scrapes from coral and poisonous marine life in the water.
  • Go to one of the local shops in Tahiti and pick out your own pearls to make it a unique experience (and for half the price).
  • In Rangiroa go to Tiputa to watch the dolphins in the pass at sunset. You can do this for free if you stay at Hotel Kia Ora.
  • Try a cooking class. It's a great way to try the local food and learn about the destination.
