Comfortable train travel brings the real Australia close to you in a way no other mode of transport can. Rail Australia, represented by Goway Travel, provides convenient services between most major cities. Avoid the responsibility of driving and the expense of flying, and save on accommodation costs with the sleeping berth on most overnight services. With rail services centrally located you can also save on airport transfers.

North to South or East to West – which way to go by train in Australia? It is possible that a true rail enthusiast could see a large part of this continent by combining two or more of the following train journeys.

The luxury Ghan Train affords the opportunity to travel through Australia’s Outback as it runs between Adelaide and Darwin with a stop in Alice Springs (which can also be the starting point). The full journey from Adelaide to Darwin takes 52 hours in total.

The Indian Pacific Train sticks basically to the south of the country as it covers in 3 days the interesting and varied terrain between Sydney and Perth. It can also be taken between Adelaide and Sydney or Perth for a shorter journey.

The Spirit of Queensland, as its name implies, covers the ground in sunny Queensland between Brisbane and Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef as does the Tilt Train but this time to Rockhampton, again on the Great Barrier Reef. Discover in a totally different way, Queensland’s coastline and the great Outback are both full of hidden surprises.
