The official languages of Seychelles are English, French and Seselwa. 

What currency is used throughout Seychelles?

The currency used throughout the country is the Seychellois rupee. Visa and Mastercard are accepted in most hotels and restaurants. As well, tourist shops often have ATMs dispensing local currency. 

Do I need a visa and passport for Seychelles?

A visa is not required when travelling from the United States or Canada as a tourist for up to 30 days. A valid passport is mandatory for travel.

When is the best time to travel to Seychelles?

The best time to travel to Seychelles is in either April and May or October and November. 

Is there transportation within the Seychelles?

The main forms of transportation within Seychelles include buses, inter-island flights, and boats between the islands. 

Is Seychelles a family-friendly destination?

With wonderful beaches and many of hotels offering children’s clubs, Seychelles can be the perfect destination for your next family vacation. 

How welcoming is Seychelles to LGBTQ travellers?

As of 2016, homosexual acts are legal in Seychelles. Anti-discrimination laws also exist, and as a tourist visitor, your gender identity and sexual orientation will be of little or no interest to anyone. Some sensitivity should be practiced, particularly in rural areas as some still find this culturally taboo. Regardless of orientation, a little discretion at sites of antiquity and during day-to-day travel will ensure you feel safe and welcome in Seychelles. 

What if any vaccinations are required or suggested for travel to Seychelles?

The WHO (World Health Organization) recommends the following vaccinations for Seychelles: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, yellow fever, rabies, meningitis, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), chickenpox, shingles, pneumonia and influenza. You may already have these inoculations, so please contact your family physician or travel clinic professional for more clarity.

What voltage and power outlet is used in the Seychelles? 

The Seychelles the power plugs and sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 240 V and the frequency is 50 Hz.  We suggest getting an adapter that allows USB use and standard plug.

What should I buy to bring home from the Seychelles?

The best shopping is from the tiny shops where local artists make and sell souvenirs. You can find anything from coconut shell artifacts, to jewelry, spices, seashells and fragrances. An advantage of buying from the street markets is the reasonable price.

What are some important items to pack for the Seychelles?

If you take any medications remember to pack an extra amount in case you decide to extend your stay.  A good book can be handy for a laid-back afternoon (some resorts have shared libraries, so take one/leave one. It’s the tropics so be sure to pack sunglasses, bug repellent and sunscreen (30 SPF or higher and make sure it is “Reef Friendly”). A rash guard is helpful to protect from the sun when snorkeling or participating in other water sports. Bring water/reef shoes to protect your feet from the coral and rockfish and sturdy shoes if you plan on taking some hikes.   

What is wifi like in the Seychelles?

Many properties offer free WiFi.  There are several options for Wi-Fi hotspots, access cards can be purchased at the airport or online.
