What language is spoken in Brunei?

The official language of Brunei is Standard Malay. However, other languages are also spoken, including English, Arabic, Chinese dialects, and various Indigenous languages.

What currency is used in Brunei?

The official currency of Brunei is the Brunei Dollar. While the Brunei Dollar is widely used among residents of Brunei, Singapore Dollars are also an acceptable form of currency as they share the same face value as the Brunei Dollar. ATMs can be found all over Brunei. 

How long does it take to get to Brunei?

Currently, there are no direct flights to Brunei from North America which mean travellers must take a connecting flight from a second destination. There are various locations across Asia, Europe and Australia that serve Brunei International Airport, including Hong Kong, Singapore, London-Heathrow, Kuala Lumpur, Taiwan, Kunming, Manila, Dubai, Melbourne, etc. Flight time will vary depending on which country/city travellers have their connecting flight. Total travel time could be as short as 25 hours or as long as 55 hours.

Do I need a Visa to travel to Brunei?

The Government of Brunei allows visitors to travel to Brunei for tourism/business for up to 90 days (depending on which country they are a citizen of) without having to obtain a visa. Specifically, regarding travellers from North America, Canadian citizens may visit for up to 14 days without a visa whereas citizens of the USA may visit for up to 90 days without a visa.

When is the best time to travel to Brunei?

Brunei experiences a tropical climate which involves year-round high temperatures, heavy rainfall and lots of humidity. The summer months (June - August) are the peak tourist season and it is when temperatures are at their highest. During the winter months (September - December), the weather is slightly cooler. However, this is when heavy rainfall can be expected. The best time to travel to Brunei is between January and May when there is little rain and temperatures are not too hot or humid.
