What language is spoken in Singapore?

The official languages of Singapore are English, Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin. 

Is English spoken throughout Singapore?

English is a common second language for most people in Singapore.

What currency is used in Singapore?

The currency used throughout the country is the Singapore dollar (SGD). Major credit cards are widely accepted throughout the country.

Do I need a visa to travel to Singapore?

A tourist visa is not required when travelling from Canada or the United States for stays up to 30 days.

Is Wi-Fi readily available?

Wi-Fi is readily available throughout Singapore. Wireless@SG is a free public Wi-Fi network throughout the country with hot spots in various places (such as restaurants and malls).

Can I use my cellphone in Singapore?

It is possible to purchase a SIM card on arrival, although you should check with your cellular provider to know what your options are as you might be able to get an affordable roaming plan.

What are the public bathroom facilities like?

There are two types of toilets in Singapore: 1) Western sit-down toilets and 2. Asian squat toilets. Most tourist attractions will offer both options.

Is it safe to drink tap water?

Tap water is considered safe to drink unless marked otherwise, but we still suggest you stick to filtered water.

When is the best time to travel to Singapore?

While the weather in Singapore doesn’t vary too much throughout the year, since the city is close to the equator, generally the best time to travel to the country is between February and April.

What are the transportation options in Singapore?

There are several ways to get around such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) subway, public buses, taxis, and Grab (Singapore’s equivalent to Uber). Usually, Goway passengers will travel by private vehicle when transiting to/from the airport or cruise terminal. Private vehicles are usually used for private sightseeing tours and shared buses are usually used for group sightseeing tours.

Is Singapore a family-friendly destination?

Singapore is a very safe and family-friendly country offering a lot of family activities such as the night safari at Singapore Zoo or a visit to Jurong Bird Park. How welcoming is Singapore to LGBTQ travellers?

Singapore is rather traditional, leaning towards intolerance when it comes to LQBTQ lifestyles. However, it is one of the safest countries to travel in as there is very little crime and people are friendly when it comes to tourists, regardless of sexual orientation.

Is tipping customary in Singapore?

Tipping isn't expected in Singapore. Some hotels and restaurants may include a 10% surcharge on the bill.

What are the main annual festivals or events held? 

Singapore has a number of festivals and events each year, including Chinese New Year in January or February, National Day on August 9, Deepavali in November, the Singapore Food Festival in July, and the Singapore Grand Prix in September. Peak season rates are usually applied during festival and event periods so it may not be the best time to visit.
