Argentineans speak a unique dialect of Spanish called“Rioplatense” or River Plate Spanish. Their accent has a rhythmic intonation that recalls the Italian language, due to the influx of Italian immigrants in the 19th century.
What currency is used in Argentina?
The local currency is the Argentine peso (ARS), available in bills of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 pesos and in coins of 5, 10, 25 cents and 1, 2 and 5 pesos.
Do I need a visa to travel to Argentina?
No visa is required for up to 90 days for US and Canadian citizens. A passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into the country, with one blank sheet (two pages).
When is the best time to travel to Argentina?
The best time to visit most of Argentina is from November to March during the summer months, though it can get extremely warm in the country’s north during this time. It is the only season to visit if you plan to embark on an Antarctic cruise. During the winter, the temperatures will be much lower but it is the ideal time to visit Bariloche if you are interested in a snow trip or skiing.
Is there transportation within Argentina?
Argentina is a promising country for bicycles and has an excellent network of buses. Nearly all towns and cities have a bus station. Some urban buses are paid for on board with coins. Transport tickets, available at kiosks, must be bought in major cities, such as Buenos Aires, Mendoza or Mar del Plata.
Is Argentina a family friendly destination?
Argentina is considered a family-friendly destination and is suitable for children of any age. Locals are very welcoming and have strong family values. Many public parks and squares, have playgrounds and are favourite family meeting areas. It is commonplace that Argentine families to stay up late, so it is normal to see young children and babies on the street with their parents after midnight. There is no early curfew, and everybody has fun.

Argentina is referred to as one of the most LGBTQ-friendly Latin American countries. It is one of the more advanced countries in the world for LGTBQ rights, having one of the most comprehensive transgender rights laws passed in 2012, and the legalization of same-sex marriage in 2010. This advanced legislation guarantees the same social rights and benefits heterosexual couples enjoy.
Electricity
The electric current in Argentina is 220 volts and the sockets have two cylindrical holes (old sockets) or flat holes plus one ground lug. In the city, an adapter for this device is easy to obtain.
Tipping:
Tipping in Argentina is not mandatory but is appreciated. The amount of the tip is dependent on your satisfaction with the service. Services that appreciate tips that travellers may encounter are servers/bartenders, bellhops, housecleaning, concierge and taxis. Having local currency on hand is recommended as there may not always be a tipping option on your bill. For tour guides, it is customary to tip but once again, that is dependent on your level of satisfaction with service with 10-20% being a good starting point if you enjoyed your time.

One of the biggest is The Carnival. The Carnival is a catholic festival held at the end of February over 4 days throughout the entire nation with special attention in the provinces of Cordoba, Corrientes, Entre Rios, San Luis, La Rioja, Jujuy, Salta and the city of Buenos Aires. The highest carnival in the world is performed at 4,220 meters above sea level in San Antonio de los Cobres in the Salta province.
