Argentina Geography and Maps
Located in South America, the geography of Argentina is very diverse. The Andes Mountain range separates Argentina from Chile in the west, while the eastern part of the country is on the Atlantic ocean. Argentina also shares borders with Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil.
The Argentine Andes have some of the tallest mountains in all of South America including Cerro Aconcagua at 6,960 m (22,834.65 ft) - the tallest mountain on the continent, Cerro Bonete at 6,872 m (22,545.93 ft), Ojos del Salado at 6,893 m (22,614.83 ft), and Cerro Morcedario at 6,768 m (22,204.72 ft). As well as sharing part of the Andes with Chile, Argentina also shares the Los Lagos Region (Lake District) with its neighbour. Located in the southern Andes, the Lake Region is home to various landscapes including glaciers, old forests, rivers, fjords and volcanoes.
Another famous geographical region in Argentina is Patagonia, the southern part of the country that hosts pastoral steppes and glacier regions. Glacier National Park is found in Patagonia and is a marvel with around 300 glaciers that are part of the Patagonian Ice Cap. Outside of Antarctica, it is the largest in the southern hemisphere. It is this diverse landscape and topography that allows tourists to visit the tropics and glaciers all in one trip.
