What language is spoken in Belize?
The official language of Belize is English. There are eight regional languages that are also spoken throughout the country. Spanish is one of them.
What currency is used in Belize?
The currency used throughout the country is the Belize dollar. U.S. dollars are also accepted in most businesses though smaller businesses may only take Belize dollars. Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs can be found in most major towns.
Do I need a visa to travel to Belize?
No visa is required for US and Canadian citizens. A 30-day authorization will be given which usually can be extended for up to 6 months by making a request from the immigration office in Belize. A passport must be valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry into the country or during the duration of stay. Non-locals will also be charged a departure tax of US$ 35.50 plus a security screening fee of US$ $0.75 per person.
When is the best time to travel to Belize?
Late November to mid-April is the best time to visit Belize. Although it is warm year-round, this is the country’s dry season.
Is there transportation within Belize?
Many Belize towns are small enough to explore on foot, bike, or even one of the golf carts people use to get around. In bigger cities, buses and taxis are the main form of transportation within the city. Air transportation is commonly used to go from one region to another. There are two main airlines that operate scheduled flights to different destinations across the country in small planes throughout the day.
Is Belize a family-friendly destination?
Whether it is in the rainforest or at the beach, Belize is a fun country to explore with many attractions for all ages making it a good family vacation destination. Even though Belizeans are very welcoming, it is important to choose the right hotel or resort that offers family and kid-friendly services, since some might be specialized in weddings or honeymoons for adults only. The majority of towns and tourist destinations have public parks and beaches children and families can enjoy.
How welcoming is Belize to LGBTQ travellers and families?
Belize is one of the less progressive countries in Central America on LGBTQ rights with same-sex activity finally becoming legal in 2016. It is still a popular destination for LGTBQ people with San Pedro Town, on the island of Ambergris Caye, being the most LGTBQ-friendly spot. Unfortunately, same-sex public displays of affection are still frowned upon, so discretion is advised when in public areas.

In Belize, the common voltage is 110/220 V. The frequency is 60 Hz. The plugs and sockets are B / G type.
Tipping
Tipping is welcome and appreciated but not mandatory in Belize. Tipping standards are similar to Canada and the US with 10-15% on average-good service and roughly 20% for great service.
