The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the most famous and popular trek in South America, perhaps the world. It is a spectacular and challenging trek through the high Andes on original Inca highway with a chance to visit extraordinary ruins, enjoy beautiful mountain views, walk through strikingly different climatic zones and finally experience the unique feeling of arriving at Machu Picchu by foot.

A trekking permit is required to do the actual Inca Trail trek. These are in high demand, and we recommend booking at least 90 days before hand.

There are 4 ways to enjoy the actual Inca Trail, but there are other fantastic trekking opportunities within Peru (which don’t require permits), like the Mountain Lodges to Machu Picchu.
