What language is spoken in Belgium?

There are many languages spoken in Belgium. Dutch is more commonly spoken in the northern region of the country whereas French is more widely spoken in the southern region of the country. A small population in the eastern region of the country also speaks German.

Is English spoken in Belgium?

Yes, English is spoken in Belgium, but more so as a secondary or tertiary language. Although English is spoken here, natives of Belgium prefer speaking in their mother tongue.

What currency is used in Belgium?

The official currency used in Belgium is the Euro. Foreign credit cards are widely used and accepted in Belgium. Visa is the most widely used, however, Mastercard is also accepted in most hotels and outlets. ATMs are also very widespread throughout Belgium and can be found in shopping centres and banks.

Do I need a visa to travel to Belgium?

A visa is not required for stays less than 90 days for citizens of visa-exempt countries, which includes Canada and the USA.

When is the best time to travel to Belgium?

Since Belgium experiences a temperate maritime climate, the fall and winters are often cold and wet, while spring and summers are mostly dry and of moderate temperature. This is the perfect time for visiting the country’s beaches, going hiking through the mountains, sightseeing, and going for walks in the parks.

Is there transportation within Belgium? 

Trams are the most convenient way to get around Belgium. The tram network covers a large area and can connect you to many cities and towns. Other means of transportation include busses, trains, taxis and the metro (only in Brussels). Cycling is also very common in Belgium; there are protected and well-defined bike lanes on many of the main roads.

Is Belgium a family-friendly destination?

Belgium has many attractions that are suited to both adults and children. Belgium is known for its food and what better way to enjoy this than on a classic food tour? Children are sure to enjoy the famous waffles and chocolate. Belgium is also beautifully viewed by boat and a great area to discover is Bruges. For families with older children, a bike tour may be better suited. Belgium has some of the best bike routes in the world. Perhaps take the time to explore the country’s beautiful landscapes, including the gorgeous countryside, rolling green hills, the mountainous region of Ardennes, and of course the many parks and playgrounds all over the country.
