Social Conventions
Initial meetings in Bulgaria can seem formal, so a firm handshake and eye contact are important. If visiting a Bulgarian home, it is best to bring a gift for the host and one should wait for the host/hostess to say when to begin eating.
Language
Bulgarian is the official language, however, minority languages including Turkish and Macedonian are spoken.
Religion
The Bulgarian Orthodox Church is the main religion in Bulgaria. Nearly 12% of the population is Muslim, and there are also Roman Catholic, Protestant and Jewish minorities.
