What language is spoken in the Netherlands?

The official language of the Netherlands is Dutch. Many Dutch also speak German and French is also spoken by many. Since Amsterdam gets a lot of tourists, locals working in shops, restaurants and tourist attractions are often fluent in English as well.

What currency is used in the Netherlands?

Since 2002, the official currency of the Netherlands' has been the Euro. Most major credit cards are also accepted widely throughout the country though some stores and boutique hotels in the countryside may not accept select cards.

Do I need a visa to travel to the Netherlands?

The Netherlands is a party to the Schengen agreement. US and Canadian passport holders may enter the Netherlands for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. 

When is the best time to travel to the Netherlands?

The weather in the Netherlands is never extremely cold or hot, the best time weather-wise is from mid-April to mid-October. July and August are the busiest months of the year and have the highest rates. The best time to see the tulips in the Netherlands will be from mid-March to mid-May.

How is the transportation within the Netherlands?

The Netherlands has an extensive public transportation network which makes it easy to travel around the country. The main public transportation between major cities is their extensive train system. Long-distance buses are limited to a few missing railway connections. Within Amsterdam, you can use trams, buses, metro and ferries. You can buy tickets as you board any bus, most trams or from the machines at any metro station.

Is the Netherlands a family-friendly destination?

The Netherlands is one of Europe's most safe and kid-friendly countries. From the Nemo Science Museum, the treasure hunt at the Van Gogh museum, the tulip gardens and the canal boat rides, Amsterdam will be very interesting to all family members.
