Russia Weather
For the most part, Russia as a largely continental climate. With a country of this size, temperatures can vary significantly, however, much of the country experiences extreme winter colds. A snow-clad country is usually what comes to mind when people think of Russia so it may come as a surprise that a great deal of the countries enjoys warm to hot summers.
While weather and seasons vary depending on the region, there are four seasons in Russia. December through February are the winter months when days are short but nights are long. The weather is cold and it snows often. In the north, winters are long and harsh and temperatures can drop to -40˚C and even during the summer, it does not get very warm.
Spring runs from March to May when the weather gets increasingly warmer and the country gets green again. June to August are summer months and the closer one gets to the south, the warmer it gets. July and August are the warmest months in Russia and they can also be the dampest months, especially in European Russia. Certain places that experience extreme cold can also enjoy hot summers. Finally, autumn is from September to November when the weather gets cooler and it often rains.
