Slovenia Geography & Maps

  • Slovenia Geography & Maps

Covering a surface area of 20,273 square kilometres, Slovenia borders Italy to the west, Austria, to the north, Croatia to the south and southeast and Hungary to the northeast. The country has a coastline of 46 kilometres/29 miles in length. Along the coast are some excellent beaches. Piran is the most popular resort. The north is part of the Alpine mountain chain and is known for its winter sports activities.

The capital, Ljubljana has been likened to Salzburg in Austria and is a modern city which also retains its older historic centre. Maribor is Slovenia’s second-largest city and is in the centre of the country’s wine-producing region.
