Social Conventions

Despite being a modern country, Spain still maintains some traditional attitudes. For example, if planning to visit religious sites, long skirts or pants should be worn, otherwise, entrance may not be allowed. Handshaking is the traditional greeting between men, while women are greeted with a kiss on both cheeks. Meal times are very important to the people of Spain, and lunch is generally longer than in many other countries. As a result, dinner is often lighter and served later (between 9:00-11:00 pm).

Religion

Roman Catholicism is the main religion in Spain and Catholic ceremonies are very important.  Other religions represented in Spain include Protestantism, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism.

Language

Spanish is spoken all over the country, while specific regions have different dialects or languages: Catalan (Catalonia), Galician (Galicia), Euskera/Basque (Basque Country) and Valencian (Valencia) among others.
