Turkey Weather
The climate of Turkey is very much dependent on geographical regions. The mountains that run parallel to the coasts cause significant differences in climatic conditions from region to region. The Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean coasts enjoy a typically Mediterranean climate that supports hot summers and mild winters.
The Black Sea Coast also experiences warm summers and mild winters but with more rainfall. Central Turkey has hot and dry summers with cold winters. This extreme is caused by the mountains that prevent Mediterranean coastal influences from reaching the interior. Eastern Turkey has long cold winters including snow and then mild summers. Finally, Southeast Turkey has hot summers and mild and rainy winters.
Despite these geographical differences, there are four seasons in Turkey. Spring is from April to mid-June. In general, the weather is fairly moderate throughout the country. Summer is from mid-June to mid-September and is quite hot in most regions. Fall is from mid-September through October and experiences shorter days and mild conditions. Rain may begin in October. Winter is from November to March and can be chilly and rainy. There are sunny days, however, they can still be cold.
