Canada Frequently Asked Questions

  • Halifax Public Gardens

What language is spoken in Canada?

English and French are the official languages of Canada, but the country remains predominantly Anglophone outside of Quebec and parts of New Brunswick. Canada is proud of its multicultural communities, and over 140 immigrant languages can be heard on its streets.

What currency is used in Canada?

The Canadian dollar ($CAD) is used across Canada. It is recommended to change your national currency into Canadian dollars, as other currencies are typically not accepted at establishments and attractions, including American dollars.

Do I need a visa to travel to Canada?

American passport holders do not need visas to enter Canada as a visitor. Travellers from select countries require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or visa when entering Canadian territory, which should be verified before attempting to cross the border.

When is the best time to visit Canada?

Canada can be enjoyed year round, with each season offering up a unique experience to be timed with your trip desires. Stunning Canadian winters bring layers of fluffy snow across the landscape, which you can dig into by ski, snowboard, or snowshoe. May through October is the country’s most pleasant weather, when you can enjoy colourful gardens, camping in lush forests, and strolling along the sparkling coastline.

Is there transportation within Canada?

With more than 5000km between each coast, Canada’s vast distances can be travelled by bus, train, or airplane. Getting around major cities like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver is easy due to well-serviced metro, bus, and tramway networks. However, a car is useful for reaching more remote areas in nature like mountains and national parks, and there’s nothing like a classic Canadian road trip.

Is Canada a family friendly destination?

Canada is home to a number of diverse attractions for all ages, including world-class science centres, aquariums, and museums. Its national parks and mountains have trails for climbers of all skill levels, which can be finished off with a picnic when you reach the viewpoint. Celebrations like the Quebec Winter Carnival, the Calgary Stampede, and the Canadian Tulip Festival will delight children and adults alike with their exciting spectacles and interactive exhibits.
