Canada Weather

  • Charlevoix region in Quebec

Canada’s sprawling borders mean that you can anticipate changes in weather depending on where you are in the country.

Winter across Canada varies greatly, with the northern regions and interior plains experiencing extreme cold and snow cover. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Canada reached a chilling low of −63 °C in Snag, Yukon in 1947. Those averse to the cold would enjoy a west coast winter, where Vancouver enjoys above-freezing temperatures with average highs of 7°C. The rest of Canada typically experiences below-freezing winters with continuous snowfall.

Stable warm weather in Canada begins from the month of May and lasts until early October, the best time to stay comfortable outdoors. In July and August, most of Canada experiences hot humid summers with little rainfall, where average highs range between 25-32°C. The west coast maintains a pleasant climate year-round, with average temperatures hovering just above 20°C in its warmest months. The east coast maintains a warm climate as well, with its waters staying refreshingly cool even in the hottest months. The north experiences shorter and cooler summers than its southern counterparts, but experiences long stretches of the midnight sun where the land is bathed in daylight around the clock.
