Things to Do in the US

  • The French Quarter in New Orleans

Los Angeles:

Follow the swaying palm trees to fantasy beaches teeming with the fit, Hollywood bodies, Los Angeles is a city built for angles. Scoop up divine Mexican street food, indulge in a celebrity chef’s latest creation, shop Rodeo Drive like Julia Roberts or get your fortune read along the Venice boardwalk at sunset. A drive along the Pacific Coast Highway past chic clothing in masculine Art Deco buildings, opulent mansions and some of the best restaurants around, from fish shacks to high-end cuisine. Soak in the beautiful people along miles of sandy beach and get into the laid-back vibe of Malibu or stroll along Sunset Boulevard where celebrities walk their dogs and sip artisanal cocktails on rooftop patios. The curvaceous Getty Centre has art and sculpture from the world over and a visit to the Walk of Fame stars or the Hollywood sign nestled into the mountains reminds you exactly where you are; a city where big dreams are dreamt and often come true.

New York City:

The hum from the people, the intensely packed skyline, the endless restaurants, the superb shopping capturing couture vintage to Fifth Avenue upscale, the pace of Wall Street, the energy of the thousands riding the NYC subway under your feet, the music scene from formal symphonies at the Lincoln Centre, to vibrating late night clubs; New York City truly never sleeps. Picnic in Central Park, walk the High Line, take in some of the world’s best museums at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA or the Guggenheim, dine amidst the neon flash of Time’s Square and catch a Broadway or an off-Broadway performance - the possibilities for culture, adventure, fashion and fun are endless in this city.

The Empire State Building is a symbol of NYC and an excellent viewing point to take in the magnitude of the Big Apple. Endless skyscrapers where the New York Stock Exchange pulses big business and the towering Statue of Liberty looks on across the bay, marking the idea that in New York City, anything is possible.

USA National Parks:

Reawaken your sense of wonder in a tapestry of colours and shapes. Of deep woods and cliff edges, caverns and mountains, waterfalls to roaring rivers and bending seacoasts. With wildlife as exciting as school-bus-sized humpbacks, feisty alligators and soaring Bald Eagles, the National Parks of the United States of America are epic. National battlefields, preserves, memorials, seashores, lakeshores and recreation areas in addition to 73 historic sites, 85 national monuments and 61 national historic parks make up the protected green spaces of America. Here, volcanos bubble, geysers explode on schedule, bears play catch with salmon, desert sands blow in the wind, and the diversity of the National Park is wonderous. Sleeping beneath enormous redwoods, Hiking the Grand Canyon, white water rafting Glacier National Park, exploration under the ground in ancient caverns in Great Basin or under the sea in the Virgin Islands National Park, the possibilities for adventure in these wonders of nature crafted millions of years ago is endless.

Atlanta:

Atlanta is a bustling city with glittering skylines and plenty of exciting attractions. It is also a city steeped in civil rights history and the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Sweet Auburn district is home to the Martin Luther King National Historical Park and the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame. The enormous Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, CNN headquarters and the Centre for Puppetry Arts are top sights. Television and film buffs will enjoy touring movie location backdrops for the Hunger Games, Ozark, Black Panther, and Walking Dead among many other productions. Foodies will not only revel in the mouth-watering traditional Southern soul food but also in upscale international cuisine. Little wonder that National Geographic selected this creative and dynamic city as one of the top destinations in 2022.

San Francisco:

San Francisco, the city by the bay has been enchanting visitors for more than a century. An area of 47 hilly square miles, San Francisco is arguably the most beautiful and progressive city in the USA. A compact and approachable place where downtown streets rise on impossible inclines to reveal enthralling panoramas. As the morning mist lifts, the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz island come into view. Walking across the 1.7-mile bridge is a wind-blasting thrill especially at sunset when the dwindling sunrays paint the city a delicate pink. A ferry ride to Alcatraz island for a tour of the now abandoned dreaded prison is a popular day trip.

San Francisco is a city of distinct neighbourhoods: Chinatown is reminiscent of the bustling alleys of Hong Kong with wafting mouth-watering stir-frying aromas; Jackson Square Historical District provides glimpses of what early San Francisco looked like and Fisherman’s Wharf with its famous waterfront and trendy seafood restaurants. Don’t leave town without taking a cable car ride up and down its 43 hills!

New Orleans:

Steeped with French, Spanish and African cultures and influences, New Orleans is a bewitching place that will get under your skin and stay there. The Crescent City is nestled in a bend of the mighty Mississippi River where this once bustling port was Louisiana’s raison d’être. The fascinating French Quarter is where New Orleans began in 1718. Its captivating history is curated at the Presbytère Museum with its unmissable Mardi Gras exhibit; the Cabildo, a superb Louisiana history museum and the Voodoo Museum with its comprehensive displays of this spiritual practice. Today the Quarter’s filigree cast-iron balconies, hidden courtyards and stucco buildings have long caught the attention of artists and writers. It’s a wonderful place to simply wander and leisurely browse the elegant antiques emporia, art galleries and offbeat boutiques. Music fans make the pilgrimage to New Orleans to hear jazz, blues, R&B and zydeco played live in music halls and bars. Gourmands will be enamoured with Creole cuisine with its unequaled jambalayas, etouffees, gumbos, crayfish and oysters.
