The Best of Israel and Jordan: Amman, Petra & Jerusalem

Duration
12 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 8,361

FIRST-CLASS | PRIVATE-GUIDED: Immerse yourself in the rich heritage of two great countries, Israel and Jordan. Including tours of the Red Rose City of Petra and key biblical and historic sites, this exceptional 12 day itinerary is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Spend 12 days exploring a land as colourful as it is ancient on this first class, private-guided tour. Travel from Amman to Wadi Rum via Roman ruins, the Dead Sea, and iconic Petra. Then make your way to Israel to explore the Holy Land.

Comparatively modern Amman has neither the history nor mystique of several other cities in the region. But it’s the best place to get a glimpse of modern Jordan, and an ideal base for exploring historic Jerash, home to the Roman ruins of Maximus Cardo, and Ajloun Castle, which stood firm against the 12th century Crusaders. Go on to Bethany, the site of Christ’s baptism before enjoying a soak and float in the Dead Sea.

The city of Madaba is known for its mosaics, including one believed to be the oldest map depicting the Holy Land. See them for yourself, then gaze out over the real thing from Mount Nebo, with views stretching over the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and the River Jordan. A full day is then devoted to Petra, "the Rose Red city half as old as time." Explore the Treasury, the Amphitheatre, and the Street of Facades. Your final stop in Jordan is Wadi Rum, the breathtaking desert made famous by Lawrence of Arabia. This unique, moonlike landscape has attracted many visitors—and film crews—over the years.

Cross into Israel and begin your exploration of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, two cities bursting with significance for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Start your exploration of its ancient sites in the City of David, where you’ll see new excavations reaching back to the times of the first temple. Then embark on a walking tour through the Old City to see the Western Wall and the ancient shopping street of Cardo. Pass through an ancient Arab bazaar before reaching the Via Dolorosa, where you’ll follow along the final footsteps of Jesus on route to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built on the site of Jesus’ empty tomb. In Bethlehem, you will visit the Church of the Nativity, believed to be built on the site where Jesus was born.

A private tour of the holy sites of the north stops in Nazareth, where Jesus spent his childhood, and later visits the ruins of the ancient synagogue where Jesus taught. Your next day brings you back to the Dead Sea where you will travel by cable car to see what remains of King Herod’s fortress and you get to enjoy another afternoon of floating away in the salty water, touted to have amazing health benefits. Your last day in Jerusalem is totally at leisure. Explore the city in your own way or book an excursion—the choice is totally yours.

On your final day take a private transfer to the Tel Aviv airport for your onward travels.
