This 3-4 day Southeast Asian vacation connects you from Singapore to Bangkok along the famous Eastern Oriental Express and features on-board meals from a world-class celebrity chef. It features luxury accommodations aboard the train, shared tours, and is perfect for high-end travellers with a passion for food.
Your trip to Southeast Asia begins in either Singapore or Bangkok. If you choose to depart from Singapore, you’ll have the option of enjoying meals by Didier Corlou, who’s renowned for his focus on French and Vietnamese cuisine, or Luke Mangan, one of Australia’s leading chefs. If you head from Bangkok to Singapore, you’ll experience the culinary creations of Janice Wong, Asia’s Best Pastry Chef, or Ian Kittichai, one of the most renowned restauranteurs in Bangkok and New York.
On the first day, get acquainted with the luxury Oriental Express, your home for the next few days. This award-winning train trip transports you back in time to an unhurried world where the journey was as much a joy as the destination. Experience ornate style, attentive service, world-class comforts, and all the pleasures of a luxury hotel on wheels. Of course, perhaps the greatest pleasures onboard are the meals crafted by the world-renowned chef travelling along with you.
If you’re heading from Singapore to Bangkok, your first full day is spent exploring coastal towns of Malaysia in Kuala Kangsar. Journey through a landscape of rice paddies and mountains and learn about local practices like rubber farming. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, head on a mountain hike to remote villages and plantations. Cross into Thailand and spend a day in Kanchanaburi, where you will explore the River Kwai and the history of the Thailand-Burma Railway or explore a local village wet market and join in a cooking class as you cruise along a river raft. On your final night, reach Bangkok and disembark. The reverse journey includes the same day trips, but adds an excursion to traditional settlements in Johor and an extra night on-board as you head from Bangkok to Singapore.

Board the gleaming carriages of the Eastern & Oriental Express and relax on board as the train leaves Singapore and crosses over the Johor Causeway into Peninsular Malaysia. This very special journey is accompanied by celebrated French chef, Didier Corlou, whose extensive travels across the globe, and particularly in Asia, have given him a deep passion for Vietnamese cuisine. Over the next few days, you'll be treated exclusively to his sumptuous dishes, which meld French and Vietnamese cuisine and guarantee exciting new taste sensations.
Afternoon tea is served in your cabin as the journey continues northward. Stroll along to the Observation Car to admire the passing scenery of lush landscapes and rural settlements. Later, dress for an exquisite four- course dinner in the Restaurant Car, your first opportunity to sample Didier' s culinary creativity. Afterwards, you may wish to relax over an enticing cocktail or liqueur in the Bar Car where our resident pianist plays. Retire to your cabin, which has been transformed into an inviting bedroom.

As the train travels through the verdant rainforests and rural west- coast towns of Malaysia, enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the comfort of your cabin. Arrive at Kuala Kangsar and alight to board a coach, which whisks you away from the city to Labu Kubong, a village set among paddy fields and backed by lush mountains. Here you embark on a traditional village experience, a chance to immerse yourself in rural Malaysian life. The villagers welcome you with a traditional martial arts dance before you sample regional food and drink and browse locally produced handicrafts. Enjoy a guided walk through the rice paddies to learn about the process of planting and harvesting before heading to a plantation where rubber, banana and durian are grown. Your tour finishes with refreshments that include banana and durian chips produced from the plantation crops.
Alternatively, advanced trekkers may wish to join our optional hill trek. Your trek begins with a visit to a banana and durian plantation before you join your guide - an expert naturalist - to climb to the peak of the nearby hill. Cold towels and refreshments greet your arrival at the top, following your challenging walk, as well as breathtaking panoramas over the village and plantations. Peer through the binoculars provided and you may even catch a glimpse of the train waiting at nearby Padang Rengas Station. Please note, this excursion is recommended for advanced walkers only. We advise wearing comfortable and sturdy walking shoes for both excursions.
Both of the Labu Kubong options are weather permitting. In inclement weather, you'll enjoy a guided tour of Kuala Kangsar instead. Your guide will lead you on a journey through the fascinating royal town, taking in such sights as the majestic Ubudiah Mosque. Rejoin the train for a special afternoon tea, created by Didier, which is served in your cabin. Once replete, you're invited to join the chef for a fascinating 'spice atelier'.
This evening, head to the Restaurant Car for dinner and perhaps linger over a digestif in the Bar Car.

Your day begins in style with a gastronomic breakfast, prepared by Didier and served in your cabin. Late morning, disembark at River Kwai Station for your chosen excursion:
1. Classic Tour
Cruise along the Khwae Yai River aboard a local raft, taking in views of the splendid Thai teakwood houses along the banks. Your guide provides an insight into the building of the infamous railway and bridge, which were constructed by allied prisoners in World War II. After the cruise, board a minivan to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and perhaps pay a visit to the Don Rak War Cemetery before returning to the train.
2. Tracks to Unseen Thailand Tour
Disembark in Kanchanaburi and board a minivan to rural Nong Kao village for your hourlong bicycle tour. Cycle through the verdant rice fields, stopping for a fascinating demonstration at a local Thai farm and refreshments. Return to the Traditional Thai Wooden House for a relaxing herbal infusion before returning to the train.
3. Local Flavours Tour
Your guided tour begins with visits to a vibrant wet market and an acclaimed rice noodle house where you will gain an insight into the traditional processes used. You then proceed to Wat Nue Pier to board a river raft and participate in a traditional Thai cooking class on board as you sail along the River Kwai. Disembark at Chong Kai War Cemetery for an optional visit before returning to the train by minivan.
Rejoin the train in Kanchanaburi. Back on board, lunch is served as the train makes its stately way towards Bangkok, arriving in the late afternoon. Alight here for your onward travels.
