Australia & The Northern Territory In Depth

15 Days
Prices From:
US$ 3,599

Unlock the secrets of the Northern Territory on this adventure across Australia. Start in Sydney, home to the famous harbour and Opera House. Then fly to the Northern Territory to discover Uluru/Ayers Rock, Alice Springs, Darwin, and Kakadu. Cap off your trip in sunny Brisbane on the East Coast.

This 15-day Australian vacation takes you from Sydney to the Northern Territory to explore Uluru, Alice Springs, Darwin, and Kakadu National Park before ending in Brisbane. It features your choice of accommodation level, shared tours, and is an ideal introductory tour to Australia.

Your journey begins with a flight across the Pacific Ocean that takes you to Sydney, the largest city in Australia and home to one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. You’ll have two nights in Sydney to explore at your leisure. You can spend your time exploring the obvious landmarks, from the beautiful Sydney Opera House to the Harbour Bridge, where you can book a BridgeClimb if you’re so daring. You can head to Taronga Zoo to see some of the loveable marsupials that make Australia so famous, or spend a sunny afternoon on Bondi Beach, getting in touch with the surfer culture that helps define the country.

After seeing Sydney as you see fit, fly to the Red Centre and Uluru/Ayers Rock, your base for the next few nights. This sacred monolith is Australia’s premiere natural icon and one of the cornerstones of Indigenous culture in the centre of the country. On your first night, spend four hours unlocking the magic of the rock with the Sounds of Silence Dinner. Stroll through the sand dunes, watch sunset over Uluru, and enjoy the Milky Way come alive in the hours after sundown. The next morning, wake before dawn to watch the sun rise over the sandstone monolith. You’ll also go for a walk in the company of an Indigenous guide and see the rock paintings near Mutitjulu Waterhole before enjoying drinks at sunset near Kata Tjuta/The Olgas.

Head north to Kings Canyon Resort, where you’ll spend sunset enjoying views at Carmichaels Crag. The next morning, explore the rim of Kings Canyon and have the option of hiking down to the oasis in the canyon. That evening, head along the Stuart Highway on route to Alice Springs. You’ll have a day to discover the unique culture of The Alice. You’ll visit the School of the Air, which educated children over the airwaves, the Royal Flying Doctors Service, which services patients in remote communities, and the Alice Springs Reptile Centre, where you can see Bearded Dragons and other desert reptiles.

Fly north to Darwin, the centrepiece of Australia’s Top End. Darwin is a melting pot of natural landscapes and culture. It’s also the gateway to the stunning national parks of the Top End. Spend a night in Darwin and enjoy a taste of its laidback, friendly vibe before heading south along the Arnhem Highway to Kakadu National Park, the largest national park in Australia. This landscape of billabongs, sandstone escarpments, and thick vegetation dates back thousands of years and is a cultural landmark for the local Aboriginal tribes. Head to the Warradjian Cultural Centre to learn about the human history of the park before cruising the Yellow Water Billabong to spot seawater crocodiles and admiring ancient rock art at Nourlangie. The next day, head to Ubirr to see the 20,000 rock paintings at this UNESCO-listed art site. You’ll then cruise the East Alligator River in the company of a local guide and learn about Indigenous mythology as well as some bush survival skills.

Connect back to Darwin for another night and fly on to Brisbane on the east coast of Queensland. Brisbane used to be something of a backwater but today it’s one of Australia’s emerging urban destinations. The weather is warm and it’s endlessly sunny in Brisbane, which is fitting as it’s near the stretch of coastline known as the Sunshine Coast. You’ll have a day at leisure to explore Brisbane and surrounds. A good option is a visit to nearby Australia Zoo on the Gold Coast, where you can cuddle a koala and learn about the conservation efforts of the Irwin family.

At the end of your stay, connect back to the airport to return home.
