Duration
18 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 2,959

FIRST-CLASS | SELF-DRIVE: On this multi-week program, discover the top highlights of both islands at your own pace as you drive along winding roads and past postcard-perfect vistas. One of the most visually impressive countries on Earth, you're invited discover New Zealand in-depth.

Combine our NorthIsland and South Island Self-drives to create the ultimate 18 day New Zealand adventure for those wanting a complete, yet flexible tour.

Depart Auckland for Coromandel Peninsula, home of Hot Water Beach, where you can dig your own thermal spa in the sand. Waitomo Caves are known and loved for their breathtaking stalactites, stalagmites and glow-worms. Take a memorable journey through them on your way to Rotorua, a spectacular geothermal laboratory of steaming geysers and bubbling mud pools. Stop in at beautiful Lake Taupo on your way to historic Napier and Hastings, where an abundance of Art Deco and Spanish Mission architecture is yours to explore. The picturesque Martinborough region will delight your taste buds with its world famous Pinot Noir, along with other delicious wines. End your North Island adventure in Wellington, capital of New Zealand and home to many of the country’s best museums and galleries.

Across Cook Strait, Nelson is the South Island’s oldest established city. Leave your vehicle in town to explore Abel Tasman National Park, a pristine wilderness with unspoiled beaches and spectacular ocean views. A drive along the Tasman coast brings you to the unique Pancake rocks of Punakaiki, as well as Glacier country, where stunning Franz Josef glacier is said to be the tears of a Maori princess, pining for her lost love.

As New Zealand’s adventure capital, Queenstown is a Mecca for skiers, but still has plenty to offer the less active visitor, including a ride on the famous Shotover jetboat. No stay here is complete without a day trip to Milford Sound. A 16km fjord carved by glacial ice, this is New Zealand’s most spectacular attraction and is best seen via a cruise along its length. Go on to the beautiful, Scottish-influenced town of Dunedin, where you may enjoy visiting the Royal Albatross and Yellow-eyed Penguin colonies of Otago Peninsula. Your journey ends in historic Christchurch, with time for a little sightseeing before departure.
