West Coast Discovery Self Drive: Perth to Broome

Duration
12 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 1,539

Get out and see the Australia less-travelled on this Western Australia self-drive. Enjoy the freedom of exploring at your own pace behind the wheel, with a confirmed itinerary and accommodation to make the most of your time, plus the support of Goway’s co-pilot kit, designed for Australia self-drives.

This 12-day self-drive through Western Australia begins in Perth, the world’s most remote capital city. See the Pinnacles Desert, Monkey Mia, Karijini National Park, and so much more, exploring an Australia few get to see.

Consider arriving in Perth a day or two early to give yourself time to explore Fremantle, Australia’s largest western port and artistic hub of Western Australia. Then set out for Cervantes and see the surreal Pinnacles Desert, giving yourself time to swim in the region’s flawless beaches. Then drive on to Geraldton to admire the Byzantine style of St Xavier Cathedral, and learn about the numerous ships wrecked along this beautiful yet unpredictable coastline.

Your next stop, Kalbarri, lets you enjoy the best of that coastline for yourself, with outdoor activities both in the water and on land. Visit the Rainbow Jungle parrot breeding centre, and admire some of the 800 species of wildflowers that have made Kalbarri National Park famous. Then it’s off for a dolphin encounter at Monkey Mia, where playful wild dolphins have been coming into shore to feed for several decades.

Drive on to Carnarvon, gateway to Ningaloo Reef. This is an ideal spot for exploring the Kennedy Ranges and Mount Augustus. Make your way up to Coral Bay, stopping in at Martinborough, famous for its Pinot Noirs. If the season is right, Coral Bay is one of the best places in the world to see majestic manta rays and whale sharks, or even humpback whales between June and October.

Karinjini National Park harbours some of Western Australia’s most spectacular scenery, including rock tunnels, towering pillars, some of the clearest water you’ll find anywhere, and waterfalls ideal for a refreshing swim. Spend one final night in Port Headland before driving the Great Northern Highway to Broome where you’ll disembark. Be sure not to skip the pristine white beaches along the way.
