The Great Eclipse: Sun, Moon and Tango

Duration
7 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 4,282

Combine Buenos Aires and Bariloche for this stunning duo of city and nature. Start in Buenos Aires where you’ll visit the colourful neighbourhoods and enjoy a Tango show. It’s then on to Bariloche in Patagonia to explore lakes and fjords and witness a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event, a total solar eclipse.

This 7-day Argentine vacation takes you to Buenos Aires before heading to Bariloche in Patagonia to experience a total solar eclipse. It features first-class accommodations, private and small group tours, and is a great add-on to a longer trip through South America.

Your journey begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital and South America’s most cosmopolitan city. A half-day private tour will showcase many of the city’s architectural highlights, from the famous pink mansion of Casa Rosada to the Colon Theatre, one of the world’s premiere opera houses. You’ll also tour through La Boca, the Italian neighbourhood renowned for its colourful homes, and Recoleta, where the famous cemetery is located. That evening, enjoy a performance of Argentina’s national artform, Tango, with a dinner and Tango show. The next day, venture north of the city to explore the Tigre Delta, once a mosquito-filled swamp and now one of Argentina’s best-known resort areas. You’ll ride a catamaran along the delta and head to Parana to see the exclusive mansions along the water, including the one belonging to the country’s president.

From Buenos Aires, fly down to Bariloche in Argentine Patagonia. You’ll have a couple days to explore the magnificent landscape of rocky plateaus, high-altitude lakes, and crisscrossing fjords. One day, head on a half-day circuit of the San Pedro Peninsula and the Llao Llao Peninsula. You’ll enjoy spectacular views from Campanario Hill, see the national treasures of San Eduardo Chapel and Llao Llao Hotel, and summit the natural balcony overlooking Moreno Lake. The next day, discover the region’s fjords on a boat trip across Lake Frias, visiting the cascading waterfall of Los Cantaros along the way.

It’s then time for the main attraction: the total solar eclipse. Head to a private ranch to watch this once-in-a-lifetime event over the Patagonian steppe. Watch as the sun grows dark, shrouding the magnificent landscape in an eerie twilight.

You’ll then return to Bariloche, where you’ll have one more night before departing.
