Your trip to Chile begins in Punta Arenas near the southern tip of Chile, which acts as your gateway to Patagonia Camp and Torres del Paine National Park. The eco-friendly Patagonia Camp lies on the banks of Lake Toro and is only 15 kilometres from Torres del Paine’s administration centre, offering easy access to its most popular sites. Its 18 yurts offer incredible views of Lake Toro and Paine Massif, as well as skylight domes to view breathtaking clouds or starlight above your bed. Its restaurant serves up Chilean favourites like king’s crab, salmon, and lamb, while house wines from nearby Matetic Vineyards ensures that your time at the bar will be well-spent.
Of course, the main purpose of your time in Patagonia is to explore its shifting landscape, from ice fields to rock spires to incredible glacial lakes. Spend your days at Patagonia Camp heading on excursions like a hike to the base of the Towers, three monoliths that rise almost 2,900 metres high and adorn most photographs of the region. Take a boat up to the base of Grey Glacier to see the beginning of the South Patagonian Ice Field. Walk the Fauna Trail to spot the park’s natural residents, including Patagonian foxes, caracaras, South Andean deer, and the llama-like guanacos.
