Discover the natural wonders of Patagonia on this adventure through Chile and Argentina. Hike along the towers of Torres del Paine National Park and see ice calve from Perito Moreno Glacier. You’ll also visit the capitals of Santiago and Buenos Aires to enjoy the cosmopolitan pleasures of these South American countries.

This 10-day South American vacation takes you across Chile and Argentina to explore the beautiful expanses of Patagonia as well as Santiago and Buenos Aires. It features moderate or first-class accommodations depending on preference, small group tours, and is a perfect combo of city stay and outdoor adventure.

Your journey to Patagonia begins in Santiago, the Chilean capital, where a city tour will reveal some of the most popular sights in this surprising South American capital. Get oriented at the Plaza de Armas before seeing Moneda Palace and heading up Santa Lucia Hill to Huelen. You’ll stop off at Barrio Lastarria to enjoy some of its famous dishes before reaching “Sanhattan,” the financial district on the city’s east side that gets its name from the surplus of glass skyscrapers and modern structures. Connect to Vina del Mar to see the Flower Clock and enjoy lunch at a local seafood restaurant before heading along the coast to Valparaiso, the UNESCO-listed city known for its picturesque location in the coastal hills. You’ll also visit Cerro Alegre to admire Sotomayor Square and the many funiculars.

Fly south to Punta Arenas in Patagonia and connect to Puerto Natales, your base in Chilean Patagonia. You’ll have two days to explore nearby Torres del Paine National Park, the most famous park in Chilean Patagonia. Stop by the Milodon Cave to learn about the giant land sloths that used to inhabit the land. Then reach the park where you’ll enjoy stunning views of Laguna Sofia and the Cordillera Prat before hiking beneath the famous Towers that give the park its name. After lunch, explore the lakefronts of Lake Nordenskiold and Laguna Amarga. You’ll have another day to further explore the park or discover some of the quaint pleasures of Puerto Natales.

Cross the border into Argentina and reach El Calafate, your base on the Argentine side of Patagonia. You’ll explore Glaciers National Park and Perito Moreno Glacier, possibly the most famous glacier in the world. Venture up to its face to admire its wall of ice and hopefully witness some ice calving into the waters below. The next day, sail along the fjords through the region, from Lago Argentino to the Upsala Channel and Spegazzini Glacier.

After exploring the glaciers and waterways of Argentine Patagonia, fly north to Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, where you’ll have a day to visit some of its famous sights on a city tour. You’ll see Casa Rosada, where Eva Peron famously addressed the nation from the balcony, the stunning Colon Theatre, and the neighbourhoods of San Telmo, La Boca, and Recoleta, culminating in a visit to its famous graveyard.

The next morning, head to the airport to connect back home.
