This 11-day English vacation visits several war museums across England to recount the history of the Battle of Britain. It features moderate accommodations, small group tours, and is perfect for history buffs and World War II aficionados.

Your journey through the history of the Battle of Britain and World War II begins in London, where you’ll spend a night and have time to explore the sights and sounds of central London. After getting your bearing in London and seeing a few landmarks like the London Eye and Buckingham Palace, begin your exploration of Britain’s role in the war. Stop by the Imperial War Museum to see the country’s greatest collection of war memorabilia before heading to Cambridge to explore the university and cross the Bridge of Sighs on a walking tour. Tour Lincoln’s Cathedral and Castle before stopping off at RAF Museum Cosford to see original bombers from the Battle of Britain.

At Bletchley Park, learn about the secret codebreakers program during WWII where individuals like Alan Turing worked to uncover Nazi ciphers. Afterwards, tour the Swiss Garden Shuttleworth Collection, which is one of the most prestigious collections of aircraft in Britain. Reach Winchester, where you’ll spend a couple nights and explore Winchester Cathedral, and have a day to tour on your own, stopping off at the Great Hall and Winchester College among other landmarks and museums. At the Bovington Tank Museum, you’ll learn about Britain’s armoured divisions during the war. Then continue to the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth to meet an RAF veteran and learn about the massive Allied efforts of June 6, 1944.

Close out your journey through WWII history at the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum and Biggin Hill Hangar, where you’ll see some restored spitfires, before returning to London and spending another night before returning home or connecting to your onward destination.
