Bike, Hike & Boat in Italy: Florence, Cinque Terre and Milan

Duration
10 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 4,097

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: Get off the beaten track and explore three incredible regions of Italy in three unique ways! Cycle your way through olive groves and vineyards of the Tuscan countryside, hike through the picturesque villages of Cinque Terre, and take a boat out onto Lake Maggiore near the bustling metropolis of Milan.

This 10-day Italian vacation takes you across the nation by bike, foot, and boat as you journey to Florence, Levento, and Milan.

Your trip to Italy begins in Florence, the Tuscan capital and the birthplace of the Renaissance. Wander around the old city squares to admire the gorgeous architecture and dine on Tuscan cuisine, known for its fresh ingredients, bright colours, and wonderful flavours. You’ll have a full day at leisure to explore the city’s many wonders. Stroll through the heart of the city to learn about the architecture and the history of the Medici Family, which ruled Florence during the Renaissance and commissioned many of its artistic masterpieces. Be sure to visit Brunelleschi’s famous Duomo as well as the Accademia Gallery, home to the most famous statue in the world, Michelangelo’s “David.” While in Florence, you’ll head on a bike ride through the Tuscan countryside. Travelling with an expert tour guide, you’ll head into the heart of Florentine Chianti and bike through a landscape of olive groves, vineyards, and Florentine castles and villas.

Continue your Italy vacation by heading to Levanto, a gorgeous seaside village that’s a great base of exploration for the villages of Cinque Terre. Staying in Levanto, you’ll spend a day hiking through the breathtaking hillside villages of Cinque Terre. Start in Corniglia and wind through pine forest and terraced vineyards while enjoying exceptional views over the sea. Stop in Luciano to visit a local wine cellar and munch on snacks like focaccia. Then continue your hike along the romantic stairway passing through olive groves on the way to Manarola to end your journey. The next day is at leisure to explore the picturesque coastal villages and admire their pastel-coloured homes.

Next stop is Milan, Italy’s second-largest city and the undeniable metropolis of the north. As one of Europe’s capitals of fashion and design, Milan has a lot of culture to boast of. But it’s also a working city with a bustling financial industry. Spend a day at leisure seeing some of its most popular landmarks, including the stunning Gothic Duomo di Milano, the country’s most stunning Gothic church, and the Santa Maria dell Grazie convent, which houses da Vinci’s famous painting of “The Last Supper.” Also be sure to do some shopping in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the oldest active shopping mall in all of Italy. While in Milan, you’ll head to the borders of Piedmont, Lombardy, and Switzerland to head onto Lake Maggiore, the nation’s second-largest lake. Stroll through the streets of Stresa before boarding a boat to discover the breathtaking scenery of the lake and its picturesque islands.

At the end of your Italy vacation, head to the train station to continue your onward journey.
