FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: Explore the quintessential highlights of Spain in Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona. Discover historical landmarks and artistic masterpieces in Madrid and Barcelona, explore the old cities of Toledo and Ronda, and enjoy delicious tapas and beautiful Flamenco music.

This 9-day Spanish vacation offers an ideal introduction to Spain, taking you to three of its largest and most popular cities: Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona. It features first-class accommodations and small group tours.

Start in Madrid, Spain’s capital and beating cultural heart. Take a day to settle into your accommodation, conveniently located on the Gran Via just steps from the Metro, and explore this great city at your own pace. Learn about the city’s imperial past with a walking tour that takes you alongside Hapsburg palaces and monuments. Then, skip the line and enter the majestic Royal Palace,  the largest royal palace in Europe, comprising of over 3,000 rooms within 135,000 square meters (larger than England's Buckingham Palace and France's Palace of Versailles". That evening, learn about the history of tapas and enjoy treats at a few of the best local tapa bars and hideouts in the city. The next day, head on a full day tour of the city of Toledo, which is world-renowned for its blending of Arab, Jewish, and Catholic cultures. Explore its mix of churches, mosques, and synagogues and admire some of the local artisans at work.

Take the train south to Seville, the capital city of the southern region of Andalusia, which is defined by its dry topography and Moorish cultural influences. Enjoy a day seeing some of the city’s icons on a tour, including the university, the old tobacco factory (think Bizet’s Carmen), San Telmo Palace, the Royal Alcazar, and the narrow streets of the old Jewish quarter of Santa Cruz. Then enjoy a demonstration of a classic Andalusian art form at the Flamenco Show. Feast on a dinner of tapas and drinks while you listen to the floral rhythms of Flamenco. Another day, visit the nearby city of Ronda, situated on a plateau cleaved by the deep course of the Guadalevin River. Stroll the city’s old quarter, among the oldest in the nation, and enjoy the views of the mountain crags from lookouts and the New Bridge.

Ride the train to Barcelona, seemingly a world away from the rest of Spain, embodying the unique culture, architecture, food, and spirit of Catalonia. As you did in Madrid, you’ll head on a walking tour to discover the unique tapas dishes that define the flavours of Catalonia. The next day, discover the city’s major sites on a small group tour that includes the city’s must-sees. You’ll see some of Gaudi’s masterpieces, including La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, as well as the old streets of Barrio Gotico and the Catalunya National Art Museum.

At the end of your stay, connect to the airport to return home.

Day 8

Full Day Barcelona - Small Group

Start your tour with a drive to the famous hill of Montjuic, which offers excellent views over the city and was the site of the 1992 Olympic games. After a brief stop at the Catalunya National Art Museum (MNAC), from where you will hear all about the history of Barcelona, make your way down to Placa Espanya and on past the Modernist buildings of the Eixample area. Your drive to the iconic Sagrada Familia will take you up Passeig de Gracia, home to the famous designer stores, and the setting for two of Barcelona's most talked about Gaudi buildings: La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.

Finally, you will arrive at Sagrada Familia where your guide will explain all about the history and importance before showing you inside for a self-guided tour. The "Skip the Line" policy means entrance tickets will have been pre-purchased and there will be! For many, this is the highlight of their Barcelona trip as they experience the wonders of the Sagrada Familia at their own pace without being rushed around by a guide.

The group will then head to the oldest part of Barcelona, the Barrio Gotico, which, as late, as the mid 19th century was still surrounded by the Medieval walls. At this point, you will leave the bus and enjoy a stroll through the narrow winding streets of medieval Barcelona. At the start of your short walk through the historic streets of Barcelona, stop for a brief tour of one of Barcelona's most traditional indoor food markets: Mercat de Santa Caterina. From there, travel back in time, going from the Roman era through to the early Middle Ages, when the Catalan counts were controlling the Mediterranean sea, and Barcelona was the capital of an empire. During this part of the tour, you will also visit the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Palace, the original 2000-year-old Roman Temple and part of the Cathedral.

The final part of the morning tour takes in part of the Born district, where the guide will point out a variety of restaurants and tapas bars suitable for lunch before ending the trip in the magnificent Santa Maria del Mar church - one of the most beautiful in Barcelona. After a quick lunch, head straight to Park Guell, the famous city garden designed by Anton Gaudi. The guide will lead the group down through the park explaining the garden concept and introducing you to some of Gaudi's most bizarre creations. From the Park, head straight to one of the most famous Gaudi buildings of them all: La Pedrera. You will have an hour here to visit inside the building. The tour ends here at around 4pm.
