Croatia Highlights: Zagreb, Split & Dubrovnik

Duration
10 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 4,644

DELUXE | TAILOR-MADE: Start in the capital, Zagreb, Croatia’s centre of culture, innovation, and opportunity. Next is Split which dates back to the Roman era, where you'll enjoy a visit to River Krka Waterfalls and Sibenik. Finally, visit Dubrovnik, taking your time exploring this renowned walled city, known for its old town, bars and restaurants.

This 10-day trip through Croatia takes in the country’s must-see stops while leaving you plenty of time to explore. See fabled cities and unspoiled national parks, including a day trip to Kotor in Montenegro.

Check into your hotel in Croatia’s capital city, Zagreb. While tourists make a beeline for the coast, you’ll have a full day at leisure to explore one of Europe’s most enchanting, yet under-appreciated capital cities. The coast may showcase Croatia’s past, but Zagreb embodies its cultural present and future. Located right at the crossroads of Central and Balkan Europe, it contains a mix of influences like no other city in Europe. It contains many of Croatia’s best museums, galleries, gardens, and entertainment districts, along with quirkier attractions such as the Museum of Broken Relationships.

Go on to the Dalmatian Coast, and the city of Split. Home to the World Heritage Listed Palace of Diocletian. You're here for three nights, with a full day coach trip to the Sibernik Riviera. You’ll visit the Adriatic’s oldest town, St James’ Cathedral, and the incredible waterfalls of the River Krka. You’ll also be able to see demonstrations of activities that were a traditional part of life here for many years. Then enjoy a day at leisure to see the sights of Split. You might like to tour Diocletian’s Palace, stroll the Riva waterfront, dive into the Archaeological Museum, or bask in the beauty of Jupiter’s Temple.

Your final stop is Dubrovnik, the sparkling jewel of the Adriatic and the walled city at the top of nearly everyone’s Croatia ‘must-see’ list. Enjoy a half day sea kayaking and snorkelling trip on the Adriatic and visit Lokrum Island, ‘The Island of Love.’ Relax on a beach you can only reach from the sea, and paddle beneath the awesome city walls for a unique perspective. The following day, head to the historic town of Mostar, known for its old Turkish houses and Old Bridge and Stari Most, the grand stone bridge.  Then, visit the gorgeous natural attraction of the Kravica Waterfalls.

Return to Dubrovnik itself and enjoy a full day to explore on your own. Roam the city walls, explore the ancient monasteries and churches, scout out some Game of Thrones filming locations if you’re a fan, or simply explore what is one of the fastest rising restaurant, café, and bar scenes in Europe.

Day 4

River Krka Waterfalls and Sibenik

Your day begins with a pleasant coach drive through the karsts hinterland of Sibenik Riviera. You will arrive in the town of Sibenik, the oldest Croatian town on the Adriatic coast. It is also called Kresimir's town, since it was the residence of King Petar Kresimir IV, the most important ruler of the ancient Croatian state. It grew from an old Croatian fort near the fortress of St. Michael, which still overlooks the town. Upon arrival, you can enjoy sightseeing one of the most valuable sacral monuments in Dalmatia - the St. James' Cathedral dating from the 15 century. By many things it is unique, not only in the Croatian architecture, but in the European as well.

You will then continue to the famous waterfalls of the River Krka. Here, in beautiful natural surroundings, the River Krka forms picturesque waterfalls cascading over 17 natural barriers. You will visit the restored ethnological monuments to become better acquainted with the customs of the region. The preserved watermills are from the 19th century and have exceptional cultural and historical significance. You will see presentations of milling wheat, washing and pounding of cloth, weaving of fabrics and floor masts, horseshoe smithing, ploughing, planting, the preparation of the food in the old kitchens and more. You will walk along the wooden paths to Skradinski buk - the longest and the loveliest waterfall on the Krka River. This is a spot where the stunning beauty is expressed in full through the perennial play of sun and water. Here you will have free time for walking, sightseeing, photograph taking and swimming in this beautiful environment.

Note: Guests must be able to walk over varying terrain and approximately 100 steps (together in Sibenik and in the National Park). Walking at Krka National Park is at guests' discretion during free time. Swimming is at guests' on risk as no lifeguard is on duty. Conservative attire (no tank tops or shorts) that covers both shoulders and knees is suggested when visiting the Cathedral in Sibenik.
