Essentials of Spain Barcelona to Madrid

Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 5,301

Ideal for a first time visitor, this essential Spain tour starts in the country’s most unique and famous city, Barcelona. It then takes in historic Granada, Sevilla, and Toledo before disembarking in Madrid.

If you are an independent traveller and prefer not to be with a group and would like to avoid the trouble of not only researching and planning your trip but also making the necessary reservations, why not let Goway be of assistance with this fully independent itinerary. Utilizing local airlines and transportation, this trip is a recommended and proven itinerary.

This 9-day journey through Spain is ideal for a first-time taste of the country – though it will probably whet your appetite for more.

Start in Barcelona, the city that fired the imaginations of Picasso, Dali, and Gaudi. A full day tour takes you through the Gothic Quarter and Montjuic, before diving into the imagination of Gaudi. You’ll visit the facades of La Padrera, Park Guell, La Sagrada Familia, and Casa Batlo, with its wondrous nautical facade. Consider arriving early if you’d like to explore inside these magnificent structures. La Padrera and La Sagrada Familia contain fascinating museums exploring the architect’s creative process.

Fly to Granada, and enjoy a flamenco show before your day at the Alhambra. The fortress is one of Spain’s most historic sights and is key to understanding the complex history between the Muslim world and this part of Europe. You’ll overnight in Sevilla, enjoying a full day tour of the historic city that includes the ancient Jewish Quarter, along with the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe.

Corboda is your next stop, bringing Spain’s complex historical religious identity into focus. You’ll visit the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos and the Grand Mosque-Cathedral of Corboda, before taking in the only surviving Synagogue in Andalusia.

Madrid is a relatively new city by Spanish standards, but there’s no denying its status as the political, economic, and cultural capital of the country. A city tour will help you take it all in before enjoying a day trip to Toledo, the famed ‘city of three cultures.’ Once home to the court of King Charles I, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is packed with history dating back to pre-Roman times. You’ll return to Madrid for lunch, with an afternoon at leisure. Art lovers may want to explore the Prado or Raine d’Arte Sofia Museums, or perhaps wander through Parque del Retiro, one of the city’s favourite green spaces.
