Hiking in the Faroe Islands

Duration
8 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 4,574

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: Set out on an unforgettable hiking tour across the remote Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic. On this nature tour, you’ll hike along windswept cliffs, see birds making their home of mountainsides hundreds of meters above the ocean, and tour the capital, Torshavn, which is one of the smallest capitals in the world.

This 8-day Denmark tour takes you on a hiking trip throughout the Faroe Islands, located to the north of the United Kingdom.

The Faroe Islands are a Danish self-governing archipelago located in the North Atlantic Ocean above the United Kingdom. These 18 remote islands are some of the best-kept secrets in Europe. The windswept and treeless moorlands are perfect for hiking, while the mountainous cliffs offer incredible views of the ocean and the surrounding islands. If you love nature and mythical culture, you’ll love a trip to the Faroe Islands.

Begin your trip to the Faroe Islands with a hike of the westernmost island of Mykines, which is known for the incredible number of birds that live along the steep cliffs. You’ll trek through the mountains to the only gannet colony in the Faroe Islands and spot puffins living on the steep cliffs that sit hundreds of metres above sea level. Continue along to Suduroy, where you’ll escape the tourists and hike along the breathtaking cliff sides that let you enjoy breathtaking views of Litla Dimun and Stora Dimun. You’ll also hike between Oravik and Vagur to pass alongside deep-green mountains and colourful villages and truly experience the rustic nature of these remote islands.

Continue your trip to the Faroe Islands by heading to the capital, Torshavn, which is one of the smallest capitals in the world and home to the oldest parliament in the world. While in town, be sure to explore the old town, Reyni, visit Fort Skansin, and admire Faroese crafts and handiwork at the design shops near the harbour, Vagsbotn. Pass on to Nolsoy, located only 20 minutes across the water from Torshavn. You’ll feel like you’ve travelled decades back in time as you hike across the island, which is home to a colony of storm petrels and the incredible lighthouse, which has the largest lens in the world that reaches 3m in diameter and weighs over 4 tonnes.

Close out your Denmark hiking tour by heading south to Kirkjubour to experience the cultural centre of the islands and visit 900-year-old Roykstovan, where the yeoman to the King of Denmark still lives to this day. You’ll also see Olav’s Church, which dates back to 1,111AD and is the oldest remaining church in the islands, and visit the largest waterfall in the islands, mighty Bosdalafoss.

This hiking tour through the Faroe Islands is a great way to experience the unique landscape and atmosphere of these remote islands.
