The next two centuries were prosperous ones for the city until an earthquake left it devastated in 1731. The Agadir Crisis of 1911 gave France the opportunity they needed to occupy almost all of Morocco making it a protectorate in 1912. Struck by another earthquake in 1960, Agadir was remodeled into a thoroughly modern city.
