Named for the Caprivi Strip, Namibia’s Caprivi region is located in the centre of Southern Africa. Perfect for a Namibia safari, it is bordered by four countries, Angola and Zambia in the north, Botswana in the south and Zimbabwe in the east, Caprivi provides a link to both the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park in Botswana.
The regional capital is Katima Mulilo and while there are no other major towns in Caprivi, the area is still densely populated. It is home to various ethnic tribes: Subia, Yeyi, Mafwe, San and Mbukushu. Along with being culturally rich, the region hosts a great deal of game as well as three national parks, Bwabwata, Mudumu and Mamili while on a Namibia safari.
Bwabwata, Namibia’s largest park, is unusual because it allows for human habitation with over 5,000 people living there. The park is situated on an important migration route for African elephants (as well as other game) from Botswana to Angola. Mudumu has no boundary fences thus allowing species to move freely and is also on an important migration route. There is a large elephant population as well as buffalo, zebra, leopards and more. Finally, Mamili is the largest wetland area with conservation status in Namibia and it provides a sanctuary for many bird species.
