Nepal is a land locked country sandwiched between India and China and divided into three geographic areas – the Himalayas (above 4000 feet/1230 metres), the Hill Region (between 1000 and 4000 feet/300 and 1230 metres) and the Central Plains, some of which can be reached on various Nepal tours.

Capturing all Nepal’s attractions in one page is not simple, although the first impression may be of a kingdom dominated by the Himalayan Mountains. It also offers glimpses of Buddhist and Hindu cultures through its architecture, customs and people. It is a deeply religious and culturally rich country with spectacular scenery.

When is the best time to book a vacation in Nepal?

With views of the mountains being a big attraction, in this case, the best time to visit Nepal is when visibility is at its best. This is between late September and late November. At this time, the weather is clear and dry and neither too hot nor cold. The monsoon, which lasts from June until mid-September, washes away any pollution and dust making the mountains very visible. The fall is also a good time to go trekking.

During the monsoon period, clouds can obscure the mountains and the rain can be a deterrent. The second best time to visit Nepal is in between February and April when the weather is warm and everything is starting to bloom. This is probably the best time to view wildlife in Chitwan National Park.

What is there to do on a trip to Nepal?

Visit Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur

On a Nepal tour, the capital, Kathmandu will make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Divided into three areas in the Kathmandu Valley, Kathmandu still has its centerpiece. Durbar Square still carries medieval atmosphere, having once been the home of the Nepali royal family. The Royal Palace still stands in the heart of the square surrounded by many interesting temples. Nearby Patan, across the river, has a wealth of Buddhist and Hindu temples where one can view wonderful carvings. Further away is Bhaktapur known for its woodcarvings, pottery and cloth weaving.

Climb Mount Everest

Looking to the mountains, Nepal offers the very best in trekking, mainly from Pokhara to the west of Kathmandu. Too frequently underestimated (often with tragic consequences), the Mount Everest summit is an extremely difficult and dangerous climb that should only be attempted by the most prepared and experienced climbers. Far more doable is the trek to Everest Base Camp. However, on Nepal tours, even this trek takes at least 12 days there and back. Shorter and less strenuous treks are numerous and well worth the effort. Pokhara itself is a wonderful resort-like town on beautiful Phewa Lake, surrounded by monkey-filled verdant forests.

Take a flightseeing tour over Mount Everest

There is another way to get to ‘the roof of the world.’ The one hour flightseeing tour from Kathmandu not only gives a bird’s eye view of Everest but of many other breathtaking snow-capped mountain peaks. You depart by bus from Kathmandu to the airport to board a small plane. In the air, a pilot provides a narration during the flight about the significance and the names of the various summits.

Trekking in Nepal

This can be done from both Kathmandu and Pokhara when on a Nepal trip and treks can be easy or strenuous depending on your interest and ability. They can be done stopping overnight at what are called Tea Houses which are basically tourist lodges, or by sleeping overnight in tents. Usually, most trekkers join a group which includes a guide, porters, and full provisions. Treks can be customized to the individual ranging from one day to much longer periods of up to at least 3 weeks. Pokhara is the more popular starting point because of the proximity of the beautiful Annapurna mountain range.

Jungle Safari at Royal Chitwan National Park

Royal Chitwan National Park is where one can undertake a jungle safari viewing the one-horned rhino, the Royal Bengal tiger, and other species of animals. Once a rampant hunting ground for Nepal’s ruling class, Chitwan National Park now features a rhinoceros sanctuary, as well as diverse ecosystems, vegetation, and fauna, including elephants, rhinoceros, tigers, leopards, deer, hundreds of bird and reptile species. Wildlife can be seen from the safety of a jeep safari, rafting tour, or on guided jungle walks. Chitwan National Park features jungle lodges as well as handicraft and souvenir shopping. With the monsoon season starting end of June till September, the most ideal time to visit Chitwan National Park on Nepal vacations is from October to May.
