Angel Falls Tours & Vacation Packages

Due to the current political situation, and keeping in mind the safety of our travelers,
Goway is not offering travel to Venezuela at this time.

Angel Falls is a waterfall located in southeast Venezuela and is one of the country’s top tourist attractions. The world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, Angel Falls sits at a height of 979m (3,212ft) and plunges 807m (2,648ft).

Found in the Gran Sabana region of Bolivar State, the waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyantepui Mountain, the largest table mountain found in Canaima National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Angel Falls is situated on the Gauja River, which flows into the Churun River, a tributary of the Carrao River.

Angel Falls Trip Highlights

Located in an isolated jungle, Angel Falls features plenty of nearby grasslands and wildlife. While one option to see Angel Falls is by flying over, the best way to see them is to get close up by canoe. Visitors can then walk to the base of the falls, where they can take pictures and swim.

Angel Falls History

Angel Falls is named after Jimmie Angel, an adventurous American pilot who was the first to fly over the falls in a plane on November 18, 1933, while searching for the legendary Golden City. Returning in 1937 with his wife and three others, Jimmie had intentions of landing atop Auyantepui Mountain. Although successfully touching down, the plane nosed-dived when it hit the ground and got stuck in the soft soil. It took 11 days and scarce amounts of food, but all five passengers made their way down the mountain to civilization on foot. As word spread, this brought Jimmie Angel notoriety, thereby having the falls named after him. Remaining on Auyantepui Mountain until 1970, the plane was then disassembled and removed by helicopter, and restored at the Aviation Museum in Maracay. It plane now sits in front of the airport at Ciudad Bolívar.

A perfect destination for hikers and climbers to explore, getting to Angel Falls itself offers many attractions amidst its scenic beauty.
