Dubrovnik Tours, Trips & Vacation Packages

  • Dubrovnik old town pier is a popular photo opportunity while on your Croatia vacation.

Dubrovnik, located in the extreme southern part of the country, is definitely the best-known destination when on a Croatia vacation and for very good reasons. It is known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic” and is among the 10 best preserved medieval walled cities in the world with its spectacular churches, monasteries, museums and fountains. The old part of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is stunningly intact with a plethora of charming red-roofed buildings. Dubrovnik has been featured extensively as a site for the popular TV series, Game of Thrones.

The old part of Dubrovnik is surrounded by a high wall which surrounds the town. It is possible to walk completely around the top of the wall which is 2 kilometres/1 ¼ miles in length and takes an hour offering great views. Within the old town is a maze of tiny narrow atmospheric streets all pedestrianized.

Some of the many attractions when on a Croatia vacation package include the 16th Century Sponza Palace which contains the city archives, the 15th Century Rector’s Palace which contains the history department of the Museum of Dubrovnik, Roland’s Column, the Bell Tower, Big Onofrio’s Fountain, St. Saviour’s Church from the Renaissance period, the Franciscan Church and Monastery which contains a library with over 30, 000 volumes and Dubrovnik Cathedral with its impressive Treasury. Dubrovnik has the oldest arboretum in the world dating back to 1492 with its collection of exotic plants and its historic gardens. An enjoyable trip can be taken by cable car from the old town to a hill behind the city where one has amazing views of the surrounding area.

During the summer in July and August, the city has an excellent Summer Festival lasting 45 days and includes plays, concerts and games.

Dubrovnik is also a beach resort. The best-known beach is the beautiful sandy Lapad Beach located on a peninsula 3.5 kilometres/2 miles from the old city. It has a long boulevard with a good choice of restaurants and cafes. From Lapad, one can take wonderfully scenic coastal walks. Banje Beach is the nearest beach to the old town and is a mixture of pebble and sand. There are several other beaches not far from Dubrovnik including the one whose namesake is in Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana Beach.

There are many opportunities to take excursions from Dubrovnik when on a Croatia vacation including other well-known resorts such as Mljet and Korcula both reached by boat. The wooded island of Lokrum 10 minutes away from Dubrovnik by boat offers an interesting fortress, botanical garden, a monastery and a naturist beach.
