  • European Central Bank
  • Financial District
  • Roemerberg Sqaure - a popular tourist spot to include on all Germany vacations.
  • The Main River

Frankfurt is the business and financial centre of Germany and the largest city in the German state of Hesse. When on German vacations, It is known for its futuristic skyline and the busiest German airport. Located on the River Main, Frankfurt is the financial capital of Continental Europe and the transportation centre of Germany. It is home to the European Central Bank and the German Stock Exchange. Furthermore, it hosts some of the world's most important trade shows, such as the Frankfurt Auto Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Frankfurt is a city of contrasts. Wealthy bankers, students and drop-outs coexist in a city that has some of the highest, most avant-garde skyscrapers in Europe next to well-maintained old buildings. It is the gateway to the rest of the country on travel to Germany and for many people also the first point of arrival in Europe.

If spending time here on German tours, consider visiting some of the following. The Romerberg is the busy market square located in the Old Town. Attractions located on the square include the Old Town Hall, St. Nickolas Church, the Ostzeile (half-timbered old houses) and the Frankfurt History Museum. Frankfurt Cathedral, also known simply as the Dom, is an imposing old Roman Catholic Gothic church located in the centre of Frankfurt. The original opera house in Frankfurt is now the Alte Oper (Old Opera), a concert hall and former opera house. Destroyed by bombs in 1944. It was rebuilt, slowly and in 1981, opened again. The Frankfurt Opera is now in a modern building nearby.

Paulskirche or St. Paul's Church was the seat of the first democratically elected parliament in Germany in 1848. Like most historic buildings in the city centre, it was destroyed during World War II but was also among the first buildings to be rebuilt. Today the building is used as a memorial site and an event Centre. The Eiserner Steg (Iron bridge). Frankfurt's well-known pedestrian bridge was built in 1869. It is just a minute away from the Romerberg and provides great views of the skyline and the Main River. The Goethe House was the family residence of the Goethe family, most notably the writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Today, the visitor can see the study with its writing desk as it would have been used by Goethe to pen his works.

Sachenshausen is reached by crossing one of the bridges from the city centre. The Main River embankment here hosts the city's largest flea market and some of Frankfurt’s best-known museums. The old town part, Alt-Sachsenhausen is famous for its old cider bars.  Sachsenhausen is known for its vibrant nightlife sporting over two dozen bars, taverns and restaurants in the southern part of the old town.

The Frankfurt TV Tower began in 1974. At its completion five years later, it became the tallest free-standing structure in the Federal Republic of Germany. The top of the tower can revolve and provides a panoramic view of the Rhine-Main area. The Messeturm (English: Trade Fair Tower) is a 63-storey skyscraper. It is the second tallest building in Frankfurt, the second tallest building in Germany and the third tallest building in the European Union.

Frankfurt is a handy starting point for traveling to Germany to visit neighbouring tourist attractions such as Heidelberg and the Rhine Valley.
