Some interesting places include the Gothic Revival Cathedral of Notre Dame built between 1613 and 1618 by Jesuits and elevated to the status of cathedral in 1870, the town fortifications and the Grand Ducal Palace which houses the Luxembourgish Parliament, the Chamber of Deputies and which is surrounded by charming cobblestoned lanes. However, there is far more to see such as the Neumünster Abbey, formerly a Benedictine abbey, now a public meeting place and cultural centre and the Place d'Armes filled with tables and chairs from the surrounding cafes. In the centre of the square is a bandstand on which various concerts are held.

The Casemates Bock is a network of underground fortifications built in the 18th century. The fortifications and environs are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites. There are also several war memorial sites including the World War II Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial. The pedestrianized old town is where the greatest concentration of shops as well as bars and restaurants are to be found. 

Museums here include the National Museum of History and Art, the Luxembourg City History Museum and the Grand Duke John Museum of Modern Art. 

Outside of the city are a number of almost fairy-tale-like castles and fortresses as impressive reminders of other times, some in superb and picturesque settings, all to be experienced on a Luxembourg vacation.

The lively town of Echternach is the oldest city in Luxembourg. It boasts the country's most prominent religious structure, the Basilica of the Abbey of Echternach where the country's patron saint Willibrord is buried. The annual Whit Tuesday celebrations in his honour involve lots of dancers in the town’s old centre. Echternach makes a great base to explore the beautiful Müllerthal, better known as "Little Switzerland". Here you can hike or bike through dense forests with many streams and even some caves.

The romantic village of Vianden with its stunning medieval Beaufort Castle is well worth a visit on your Luxembourg vacation. The beautiful location of the fortress in the Our river valley, surrounded by tight forests and a lake with swans, gives it a fairy-tale castle look and feel. Also, visit here the Victor Hugo House and take in the pleasant cafés of the Grand Rue.  

The town of Remich is the place to start a trip down the Route du Vin and discover the many fine wines that are produced in the Moselle Valley. The valley is famous for its steep hills and vineyards. It is the birthplace of Luxembourg wines, mostly white varieties such as Riesling, Auxerrois and Pinot Gris. It is home to one of the most beautiful valleys in Luxembourg and is famous for its wineries, charming hotels and medieval towns. 

In the north of Luxembourg, there are two large nature reserves, the Naturpark Our and the Naturpark Öewersauer. In addition to their function of protecting natural resources, these Ardennes parks are host to some of the most delicious local products in Luxembourg, delicacies which include herbs, oils, teas and cereals.
