  • London, Ontario

London, in southwestern Ontario, sits at the confluence of the Thames River – both were named in 1793 by John Graves Simcoe, who proposed the site for the capital city of Upper Canada.

London is known as the Forest City because of its numerous, beautiful pathways and acres of rolling parkland, much of which run along the Thames River. The city is home to many festivals including SunFest, the London Fringe Theatre Festival, the London Ontario Live Arts Festival, and The London Rib Fest.

Live theatre is alive and well here, including the Grand Theatre. Museum London offers fascinating exhibits, plus an outstanding view of the city, and The Museum of Ontario

Archaeology focuses on local First Nations history and archaeology. The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is located in nearby St. Marys, Ontario on 32 acres of land. Or attend a rousing game at Budweiser Gardens, home of the London Knights.

Head out to Fanshawe Conservation area for the day or get your thrills at Boler Mountain’s Treetop Adventure Park, Storybook Gardens family theme park, or East Park golf course and water park. Or visit Eldon House, London’s oldest residence, which also has beautiful, enviable gardens. Take a stroll on Richmond Row with its upscale shops, chic boutiques, salons and cafés. With wide sidewalks and leafy trees, Richmond Row is also home to some of the most interesting restaurants in the city.

Food lovers should start at Covent Garden Market, a London cultural landmark dating back to 1845. Head over to the Old East Village where the area bustles with shops, organic farm-to-table restaurants, cafés, breweries, and more. Or visit The Church Key, a romantic gastropub in a prominent Richmond Row heritage building, Micheal’s on the Thames, the Tasting Room, or the downtown patio of Jack Astor’s Richmond Row.
