Las Vegas Vacation Packages, Tours & Travel Experiences

  • Las Vegas bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World

Few cities can claim to be as unusual, yet quintessentially American as Las Vegas. Whether you’ve come to try your luck at the tables, catch a world-class show, hop through one labyrinthian casino after the next, wander historic Fremont Street, or bask in awe of the Nevada desert, Vegas is a whole other world, and its gaming tables are just the beginning.

When most people think of Las Vegas, The Strip is what comes to mind. This ever-changing stretch of South Las Vegas Boulevard embodies the excess, ambition, luxury, and kitsch that have defined Las Vegas. Over 60 casinos line The Strip, and while some have dialed down their themes over the years in favour of a more contemporary feel, each is distinct enough to create its own Las Vegas experience, particularly as it tries to outdo its neighbours with the latest extravagant show or rotating exhibition.

The best way to explore The Strip is to simply surrender to its artifice. Luxurious, upscale resorts and kitschy, family-friendly themes sit side by side. A wide variety of free shows range from Bellagio’s famous dancing fountains to the Lake of Dreams at Wynn, to the original Vegas freebie, the erupting volcano at the Mirage, so you’ll never have to wander far to find your next Vegas distraction.

If you’re craving that famous view that takes in the excess of it all, the most exclusive option is a helicopter ride over The Strip. You can also take a ride on the world’s largest Ferris wheel, the Vegas High Roller, or zip to the observation deck of Stratosphere’s SkyPod, which offers high-altitude thrill rides and even a controlled SkyJump for the particularly brave. The view at night is the fabulous valley of coloured lights that is The Strip, while daytime lets you appreciate the vast beauty of the surrounding desert.

Don’t spend all your time on The Strip, however. Classic Vegas still lives on neon-soaked Fremont Street, the centre of the city’s often underestimated downtown. A sound and light show (with a zip line, if you’re feeling adventurous) delights visitors each night at 6 pm, while you can explore casinos and attractions past, preserved at the outdoor Neon Museum. Vegas is also not without its seedy side, and that history is explored at Downtown’s Mob Museum.

Contrary to its neon image, there is a Las Vegas behind the sparkling façade of its casinos. Easy as it is to lose track of time at the tables (there’s a reason you won’t see clocks anywhere), you’re surrounded by the beautiful Nevada desert, so take a day to get out to Lake Mead, Boulder City, Hoover Dam, or even the Grand Canyon or Death Valley to give yourself a break.

A guided hike or horseback ride to scenic spots like the Valley of Fire can be an awesome addition to your Vegas experience. Art lovers might want to make it out to the Seven Magic Mountains, though the city’s ‘First Fridays’ gives local artists the chance to showcase their work right downtown.

Whether it’s with ambition, opulence, entertainment, or the majestic desert, Las Vegas never fails to impress.
