Massachusetts Vacation Packages

  • Annisquam lighthouse off the north coast of Massachusetts

Massachusetts is a very diverse state. Not only will you find urban delights, but also rolling hills with pretty villages and some of the most renowned beaches in North America.

South and east of Boston are glorious Cape Cod and two of the most famous island retreats in the U.S., Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. The latter often sees summer stays from the likes of the Obama family, while Nantucket is a bit wilder. Cape Cod is home to some 900 km of beaches. At the tip of Cape Cod is the colourful city of Provincetown, home to lovely shops and Bed & Breakfast places. It’s also a centre for gay culture in New England.

Also south of Boston, you can relive a critical time in American history at Plymouth Rock, where separatists from the Church of England landed in December 1620.

There are lovely beaches and great small towns north of Boston. Cape Ann is home to the famous fishing village of Gloucester. Grab some seafood and watch the sunset from The Lobster Pool in Rockport. There are picnic tables, and you can bring your own beer or wine. Or tuck into a plate of fried clams at J.T. Farnham’s in Essex, a tiny spot operated by the same family for generations. Annisquam/Lobster Cove has a charming harbour with old lobster boats and fancy, “old money” homes.

West of Boston, the Berkshires are a series of large hills with artsy towns such as Stockbridge, where you’ll find a museum dedicated to the works of American painter Norman Rockwell. The Boston Symphony Orchestra plays every summer in the town of Lenox, which is home to the annual Tanglewood concert series. Massachusetts native James Taylor is a frequent visitor.

Don’t miss a chance to visit the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, where Canadian James Naismith invented the game in 1891.
