This 12-day African small group vacation guided by Goway begins in Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful cities. During your time in the city, you’ll explore its cultural wonders as well as the breathtaking natural environment. See penguins, vineyards, and unforgettable coastal views on a tour of the Cape Peninsula, learn to cook local treats in the colourful district of Bo Kaap, and explore the city’s historic landmarks as well as the ritzy V&A Waterfront. Your trip to Africa continues with a flight to Makalali Game Reserve in the country’s northeast, where you’ll spend three nights on a 26,000-hectare private reserve. Search for fascinating animal life on morning and afternoon game drives before retiring to the camp each evening to swap stories and sip cocktails alongside an open fire.

After spotting your fill of lions and elephants, fly onwards to Zimbabwe via a one-night stopover in Johannesburg. In Zimbabwe, you’ll explore the breathtaking natural wonder of Victoria Falls, one the world’s largest and most powerful waterfalls. Tour the falls in depth, seeing them from different angles and elevations, before cruising the Zambezi River at sunset to spot wildlife along the river. Cap off your journey with a farewell dinner and drum show at The Boma for an unforgettable night of traditional food, drumming, and good cheer.

Day 2

Cape Peninsula

Cruise along Millionaire's Paradise from Clifton to Camps Bay and on to Llandudno before an up-close-and-personal Seal Island cruise (cruise optional and for own account). Wind along Chapman's Peak Drive and stop for lunch at The Foodbarn (3 course lunch with wine pairing included). Next, continue to The Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park before meandering back along the coast, visiting Simon's Town and ending your day at the penguin colony at Boulder's Beach where you get to watch these entertaining, waddling characters. Continue your journey back to your hotel, arriving late this afternoon. The remainder of this evening is at your leisure.

Day 3

Bo Kaap Cooking Experience & Cape Town City Tour

This morning you will be collected from your hotel for your Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour experience. This tour offers a fully immersive social and cultural experience combining a walking tour, hands on cooking workshop and 2 course lunch. Embark on a voyage into the life, food and culture of the Cape Malay's in BoKaap before trying a hands-on, practical lesson on how to cook like a real Cape Malay 'Auntie'! Learn how to make a variety of Cape Malay favorites and how to mix Masala for that perfect pot of Cape Malay Curry! Learn how to mix Masala, and make Rotis, Samoosas, Dhaltjies and Chicken Curry from scratch! Afterwards, enjoy the delicious feast you have helped create for lunch.

After lunch, head out on your afternoon tour of Cape Town, the ‘Mother City’. city tour. Sense the depth of history as you drive past Parliament Buildings, City Hall and the Slave Lodge before stopping for a short visit of the Castle of Good Hope (optional), originally built as a maritime replenishment station and now the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa! Alternatively, we walk around the Grand Parade square which has its own historical significance. We hear of the brief history of District Six en-route to a visit at the Company Gardens where we walk through the landscaped gardens. Trace the moves of a professional diamond cutter as he creates every girl's dream stone with a visit to a diamond cutting factory. After learning more about the history of diamonds and gold in South Africa, we drive past the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town Stadium, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay as we make our way to Table Mountain where you can ascend to the top (Cable Ariel way ticket included – weather permitting) to reach the summit. After delighting in this photo opportunity, return to the hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Cape Town to Makalali Game Reserve

After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport in time for your onward flight to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (flight cost not included). Upon arrival, you will be met by a local representative who will transfer you to your game lodge in the Makalali Game Reserve. After a quick freshen up, head out on your first game drive late this afternoon (time permitting).

Makalali Game Reserve

Today is an early wake up as you head out on your first morning game with your expert guide. Feel the bush come alive as the sun rises in your open vehicle. Makalali Private Game Reserve, home to the “Big Five” as well as many other species sits on a 26000-hectare conservancy so there is plenty of room to explore. After returning to your camp enjoy breakfast, lunch and some relaxation time before heading out on your afternoon game drive in the reserve. Return to camp for a delicious dinner before retiring for the evening.

Makalali Game Reserve

A second full day today exploring the Makalali Private game reserve with morning and afternoon game drives as you search out the many resident animals that call this area home.

This morning, there is time for one final game drive as you search for that extra special sighting. Victoria Falls & Sunset Cruise

Today is spent exploring Victoria Falls. Discover why the Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world as you tour the Zimbabwean side, which offers various vantage points along the width of the Falls, to view this natural phenomenon. Walk through the rain forest - a fun experience and quite beautiful. Stop at several vantage points to view the Main Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Rainbow Falls, the Boiling Pot, Cataract Island and Livingstone Island. Witness the spray and thunderous noise, as millions of litres of water tumble over the Falls into a series of narrow gorges below.

After your tour, head to The Lookout Café for a delicious lunch as you look over the turbulent rapids of the Zambezi River, overhanging a giant chasm of the Batoka Gorge, just down from the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge which forms part of it's spectacular backdrop. The semi open-air cafe, apart from offering undoubtedly the best view in Victoria Falls, offers a range of refreshing beverages as well as a fresh, vibrant menu with traditional as well as new flavors like local game meats and crocodile, situated in a great location.

Return to your hotel for a short rest after lunch before embarking on your afternoon sunset cruise on the Zambezi River on board the Zambezi Explorer. Enjoy the best of the Zambezi River in comfort and style. Enjoy the abundant wildlife as you travel in luxury. The boat is almost entirely powered by the sun. There are three decks on board the Zambezi Explorer. The two lower decks provide a 5-star luxury service where guests can choose from an exciting range of beverages and cocktails as well as a selection of delicious snacks. After your cruise, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Victoria Falls at Leisure

Enjoy today at your leisure to explore Victoria Falls and the surrounding area. A multitude of optional excursions can be prebooked with everything from the adventure filled bungee jumping, gorge swings and zip lines to art classes with the elephants and cycling tours around the falls.

This evening, its time for your farewell dinner and no trip to Victoria Falls would be complete without a trip to The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show. This fantastic dining and entertainment experience, specializes in traditional African food, drumming and dancing. On arrival, guests are dressed in a chitenge (traditional sarong) and welcomed into a vibrant atmosphere in which the tantalizing aromas of local dishes and game meat on the braai (barbecue) fill the restaurant, which is partially open to the star-filled African sky. Your meal begin with a mouth-watering platter of starters whilst the buffet includes soup from the campfire, a range of salads, game meat cooked on a braai (barbecue), followed by desserts. Vegetarian options are also available, as well as local dishes such as peanut butter spinach. The food is cooked and served in the style and quantity of a lavish feast, including irresistible desserts.  Experience performances by traditional singers and dancers, and enjoy an energizing interactive drumming show. A perfect way to end your trip!
