FIRST-CLASS | PRIVATE-GUIDED: Embark on a journey through China to discover the mystical landscapes of this ancient land. Travelling from Beijing to Shanghai, you’ll explore Taiyuan City and Pingyao Ancient Town, cruise along the Li River in Guilin, venture into the Reed Flute Caves, explore the UNESCO-listed Xidi Village, and summit mighty Yellow Mountain, which sits above the clouds.

This 13-day Chinese vacation takes you across China from Beijing to Shanghai to experience its breathtaking landscape of rice paddies, karst rocks, and cloud-covered mountains. It includes moderate or first-class accommodations depending on preference, private tours, and is perfect for travellers who want to experience China’s natural landscape.

Your trip to China begins in Beijing, the nation’s capital and home to the Forbidden City. Take advantage of a day at leisure to see the Forbidden City and a few of Beijing’s other historical treasures, including the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace. Then fly to Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, where you’ll explore ancient Chinese sites like the 1,400-year-old Jinci Temple. Continue on to Pingyao, home to Pingyao Ancient Town, the best-preserved ancient town in all of China, which has existed for at least 2,800 years. Return to Taiyuan to visit the Chang Family Compound, a collection of northern folk houses dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Fly to Guilin to explore a landscape of rice paddies, karst mountains, and flowing rivers that was immortalized in classical Chinese painting. Cruise down the Li River to experience the mystical landscape from the water before reaching Yuangshuo, where you’ll walk along famous West Street and admire another gorgeous landscape of rice paddies and karst rocks. While in Guilin, you’ll also venture into Reed Flute Cave to see a subterranean limestone landscape illuminated by coloured lights. Connect to Longsheng and climb the mountain to gaze down upon the cascading rice terraces that define the region. Spend a day atop the mountain and see the famous rice terraces of Longji Village before heading back to Guilin and connecting onward to Hangzhou.

In Hangzhou, you’ll climb Gushan Hill, ride a flat-bottomed sampan across the waters of West Lake, and visit Lingyin Monastery, one of the 10 most famous Buddhist monasteries in the nation. Continue along to Huangshan, set amidst a stunning range of jagged peaks. Explore the historic avenue of Laojie Street, which has been one of China’s best-preserved commercial streets for over 1,000 years, and learn about the region at the Museum of Huizhou Folk Architecture and Ink Factory. One day, you’ll head to the UNESCO-listed Xidi Village to journey through a landscape of rice paddies and green hills. It’s like walking through a classical Chinese painting come to life. You’ll also see the Song Dynasty temple in Pingshan Village and explore the bizarre city plan of Hongcun Village, which resembles the biological system of a cow.

The greatest highlight on your trip to Huangshan is Yellow Mountain, one of the nation’s most famous mountains. Ride the cable car to the summit and spend a night atop a sea of clouds. The next morning, head on a walking tour before descending and flying to Shanghai for the final leg of your Chinese vacation. In Shanghai, stroll along the Art Deco avenue of the Bund to admire the futuristic skyline of Pudong across the water. Be sure to try some local delicacies before heading to the airport to connect back home.
