Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
AU$ 2,289

FIRST-CLASS | SELF-DRIVE: Discover New Zealand’s North Island on this 9-day road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway. Make your way from Auckland to Napier with stops at the Coromandel, Tauranga, Whakatane, and Gisborne and plenty of opportunities to explore the beaches, mountains, islands, and wildlife sanctuaries along the way. Conclude your trip with a delicious meal and glass of wine in New Zealand’s “food basket,” Hawke’s Bay.

Your 9-day New Zealand road trip begins in Auckland with a two-night stay at the luxury M Social and a day tour of the city on your second day. Your tour of the City of Sails begins in the downtown core before moving onto The Domain, a city park formed by volcanic activity 140,000 years ago. Continue through the suburb of Ponsonby before crossing the Harbour Bridge to Auckland’s North Shore, where you will walk down the golden sands of Narrow Neck Beach in Davenport. Head to the summit of Mount Victoria to enjoy unobstructed views of Auckland before finishing your tour with a visit to Westhaven Marina, one of the largest marinas in the Southern Hemisphere, and a fresh meal along the waterfront at the Auckland Fish Market.

Pick up your rental car and truly begin your New Zealand road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway. Drive north along the Coromandel coast and have the option to either enjoy a scenic train ride through native Kauri forests on the Driving Creek Railway, take a boat tour of the remote Alderman islands, or simply unwind at Pauanui Beach. The next day you will drive to Tauranga with a wide array of accommodations to choose from for the next two nights, including luxury apartments, waterfront hotels, or Kiwi cottages.

Spend the next day exploring the coastal city of Tauranga or driving along the Bay of Plenty to Whakatāne where you will have access to Moutohora/Whale Island or the geothermal springs at Onepu Bay. The drive from Whakatāne to Gisborne offers many detour options. It’s worth exploring the East Cape with its rugged coastal views or joining guides from Ngati Porou to be the first in the world to see the sunrise. Spend the last two nights of your trip in Hawke's Bay, the “food basket” of New Zealand, as well as the city of Napier, where you can enjoy excellent food and wine and try your hand at surfing.
