The name ‘Cape Tribulation’ might seem ironic as you immerse yourself in the tranquil rainforest of this national park (actually, explorer James Cook christened it after his ship was damaged attempting to pass). Visit Mossman Gorge, where over 430 bird species of bird have been recorded.
Your next stop is Port Douglas, an ideal base for exploring the Great Barrier Reef, which is home to over 1200 species of fish and over 500 species of coral. Return your vehicle in Cairns.
